Consider the word picture in the last verses of chapter 7 - one house built on bedrock, the other built on sand, and see if you can find some pictures or better yet, video of 2 houses - one that is built to withstand a storm and one that is dashed to pieces by a storm . Maybe you could find something from Hurricane Katrina, or the great tsunami from a few years ago.

This takes a little thinking and digging, but I have done it several times with great results -- people REMEMBER it later.

There is a sense in which the Beatitudes are a "Table of Contents" for the sermon, and the sermon for Jesus' ministry and teaching recorded in Matthew. That is, the Gospel, in relating the events of Jesus' ministry, follows a Rabbinic style of telling something three times.

By the time you reach the "Sermon on the Mount," the "introductory material" has been covered. Matthew now sets about the job of telling us about Jesus' ministry. In the Beatitudes, we have a nutshell look at the "UPSIDE-DOWN" message of Jesus when compared to mainstream Jewish thought.

Then this in turn serves as an introduction for the sermon. Point by point, he comes back to almost all of them. Ultimately then, by paragraphs or chapters, we have several of these difficult teachings explained in even more detail.
