They do things that nobody ever did... and they do them in places nobody ever went. And for doing those things they earn medals they can't wear. If you want to know exactly what a SEAL does, you're pretty much out of luck. I know guys who have been out for over 30 years and they still don't talk about what they did. The things they do are so classified, most of the military doesn't know about it.
But, if you hear of a SEAL being captured by the enemy, you know the story isn't true.
In Vietnam, the SEALs were called "green-faced demons" by the enemy. Today you might be able to find an ex-enemy soldier who will tell you stories about the "green-faced demons." But you can bet he never faced one in combat. He's alive to talk about it.

SEAL is actually an acronym: SEa Air Land.
They are the Navy's elite special operations. They do alot.
From DA missions (direct assault) to underwater demolitions, amphibious ops, counter-terrorism, reconnaissance and intelligence. And much much more. They dive, they jump, travel over land. Their training is some of the most intense, challenging warrior training in the world. They have to be in and maintain top physical and mental condition at all times, world wide deployable at a moments notice.

Am not going into detail but they do just about anything that no one else can do. There is a movie about Navy Seals. It is a really good movie and will enlighten you a heck of a lot more than I can about what they can do.

Seriously, when our country is not at war. They pretty much get to exersize and try out the latest and greatest gadgets and gear for a living.
