Ok my last wisdom tooth is coming out and im only 17! Why? My friend is 21 and doesnt have 1! Now i actually have a few questions about it. 1 What age is normal to have them come out, or is there even a normal? 2 Does it have anything to do with how smart you are? 3 How old can you be to still get them? like 70's or 40's or whatever.

They come out no sooner than your jaw is large enough to have space for them. If someone has a small jaw, their teeth might stay impacted all their lives.

It has nothing to do with how smart you are. They are called wisdom teeth because you tend to get them at a "wiser" age. Well, 17 is "wise" as compared to 9. In the old times, people lived only 45 years, 45 years was old, 17 years was wise.

My wisdom teeth started growing when I was about 17 too. My last wisdom tooth came out when I was 30. My ex never had his wisdom teeth grow, all the way into his 30s. My relative got a wisdom tooth growing when she was 60 or so, after she got one of the other teeth removed. That caused her a big problem, because the whole area was infected.

researchers beleive wisdom teeth helped the cave men back thousands of years ago break up raw/tough meat hard vegitation and food like that. wisdom teeth come in for everyone at different times. infact my friend was at the dentiestand got xrays done and found out they dont even have wisdom teeth!! so not everyone has wisdom teeth which is kinda cool but the reason they come in is just growth nothing to do with wisdom :) so to answer your question there isnt a normal age it all depends!! :) have a good day

There isn't a normal age really. I broke my wisdom teeth in when I was about 14, (I was teething at the same time my oldest nephew was..haha) and I didn't have them taken out until I was 28, because they didn't cause my any discomfort, they had grown in straight. There is no set time that they would break through, but some people actually don't have them, and I only had upper ones.

It has nothing to do with how smart you are.

I had my first wisdom tooth come in when I was 17, and my 2nd year molar right in front of it was getting crushed from that, so the dentist pulled it out and voila! The wisdom tooth moved right in and replaced the pulled tooth. A second one grew in over a year ago and the 2nd year molar on the other side is now having the same problem, so I'm off to the dentist pretty soon to have it pulled and slowly the wisdom tooth will take it's place. It takes up to a year for it to move there. Right now, I'm 26, and one of my lower wisdom teeth is finally erupting. Now I'm starting to wonder about my fourth...

I had my wisdom teeth out, all 4 of them, and they had to cut through my gums for the bottom ones. I had huge swelling after the fact and bruising and it hurt a lot. Not during the surgery so much because they gave me injections, but in the days after. Getting a normal molar pulled should be far less painful. The injections don't really hurt, it's basically just a little pinch, you hardly even feel it unless you are waiting for it. Then after the injections go in, you won't feel pain when they pull the tooth out. You will still feel pressure, ie when the tooth releases from your gum, but it won't hurt at all. I'm not sure you'll even need painkillers or anti-inflammatory drugs for the days after the extraction, but if they prescribe them, then take them as prescribed. You'll be fine, you're in good hands I'm sure. This is a very routine procedure for dentists, and they pretty much know what they are doing. Hope I helped, take care.

Actually your wisdom teeth are a part of your body you dont need or use. They used to be helpful thousands of yrs ago when people had to eat much harsher foods to survive but now we actually don't need them. So there really is no reason for them, and sometimes they need to be pulled, the reason they need to be pulled or have to come out is because they grow in crooked or they don't have room to grow in. The age makes no difference, it varies from age 16 to early 20's..I think eventually evolution will take place and they won't even come in anymore. And no it has nothing to do with how smart you are. lol..who told you that?

Initially the needle stings but after that you should be pain free till about 6 hour post op then the pain will kick in again for several days. you will probably go home on pain medication. Your wisdom teeth are molars by the way. Sounds like your "wisdom" tooth is much healthier than you pre existing molar. smart DM.
