If he is taking clients out to dinner he is probably either writing it off on his taxes if he is a business owner or being reimbursed. If he does not own his own business, he is probably using a company credit card.
It is possible he is not allowing you to go to Spain because he thinks you need to learn some responsibility. If you really wanted to go perhaps you should have gotten a job and raised some money on your own. Or presented him with that idea, not just expected him to pay for a trip. It is pretty clear you are a spoiled child, so he should have done something earlier. He isn't a cheap idiot, he is reasonable. If you flew off the handle as far as the trip goes, that is why he isn't talking to you. The other possibility could be that he knows he is better off avoiding you.
The economy isn't great right now, no.

You cannot judge how much money your dad's business has in the bank by how much he spends on clients.
When business is slow, what should you do? Advertise, of course. Then business will come back.
If your dad says he doesn't have the money and then is spending lots to entertain clients, he's trying to build his business.
It could be perfectly true that money is tight, and he's trying to protect you from that.
I would not send my high schooler to Spain. Two years ago, I sent my college sophomore to Spain to study for a semester. It was a challenge for her, living in the tiny apartments, learning to ride the lite rail, watching for crimes, etc. I would not send anyone (especially one who's been attending private school--extra sheltered) under 20. I speak from experience. You can do this in college. It's not going to hurt you to wait.
You need to trust your daddy. He loves you, probably more than any other person on the planet, except your mom. If he could give you the world, he would. You know that. He's giving you the best education he can buy.
He's crazy about you, and if he could turn a deal in 10 days and be able to give you a different answer, he would. But he couldn't and you can't go.
Don't be spoiled. Be understanding. And make your plans for 2-3 years from now. You'll love it.

You seem pretty young and this may be the first fight with your dad but don't woory it won't be your last. You just have to understand that you aren't the same people much less the same gander and you see things differently. What you may see as ignoring he may see as avoiding. If i got upset at ever fight I got into with my parents I would be one depressed person. Just calmly say to your dad " I didn't think it was fair that you wouldn't let me go to Spain can I please know the reasoning behind it so that I can be less upset about it." You said what you have to say in a polite way and he'll probably give you an answer. If he doesn't respond call him out and say" Why are you ignoring me it hurts my feelings." I know, cheesy but it will work trust me. I use it all the time.

If you’d stop acting like a spoiled brat, his mood might improve. He didn’t ‘make you think he would say yes’. He told you he’d think about it. He thought about and decided ‘no’. You don’t have any right to say a single word about how he spends HIS money HE earned. Likely the economy has little to do with, he’s probably just tired of his daughter feeling that she deserves to have everything that she wants handed to her.
There are lots and lots of children in this country going to bed hungry at night. I’d suggest you remember that and show a little gratitude for all the things that your father does provide for you (right down to the toilet paper you use to wipe your b*tt).

Well, is the trip for your studies? or just for fun? or is it just because everybody else is going?
Ok, Kiddo, you need to understand that you are not really asking to go to your grandma's house to visit...this is the other side of the world!!! and yes, it's very expensive!!!
Your mom wants the best for their kids, but if your father is the one bringing the financial part, it's very hard on him....do you have any savings? do you work?, probably not, so it's not cool just to stretch the hand and expect to receive....life is not that kiddo. If your parents don't have the possibility to send you, then the answer is right there, sorry.
How your father pays for the customers, that is his job, some jobs are like that.
Never compare your family to other families, that doesn't work, I don't believe your parents likes "competition", that's brainless. Parents do what they can do, period.

OK, you do sound kinda spoiled. On that note let me tell you I was a daddys girl and was spoiled rotten!!!! Now I am grown and he is remarried and we DON'T speak. All I can tell you is don't hold it agaist him. Even though my Father and I don't have a good relationship, I held it against him and all it did was tear me up I have learned(which was VERY hard) to let it go it is only hurting me and my family by thinking it is his fault!!
All you can do is sit down and talk to him and let him know your true feelings. I did this and it still didnt work. Hope it works for you! GOOD LUCK!!

why did you allow him to make you think he would say yes? no is no. ask him why he is ignoring you. maybe he doesn't want to discuss it and the easiest way is to ignore you. the money he spends on his clients is probably not his personal money, but business money. he's probably mad because his daugther thinks he's an idiot. how would you feel if he referred to you as an idiot? stop making assumptions and talk to him
