I am 21 and have had severe depression since I was about 12. I took dozens of antidepressants over the years but after high school, they just quit working; they were actually making me more depressed. As I result, I turned to marijuana in order to lift my depression; it worked better than those evil pharmaceuticals. However, just recently, my doctor and I stumbled across a wonderful medication that truly gave me my life back: Adderall (it can be used for severe depression and I'm also ADHD). After all these years of searching, the perfect drug was found. But there's one problem...I developed an arrhythmia during this time, and as a result, I cannot take it. Every medication I take aggravates my heart condition. By the way, I stopped the marijuana many months ago and repented. Now here's what I'm getting at: I am saved and I love Jesus, but the depression still lingers. Could I lose my salvation if I went back to smoking pot? It's my only option at this point. There is no joy anymore.

BTW, therapy, exercise, yoga, herbal remedies, and healthy eating hardly help.

Okay. Just because someone decides to smoke pot doesn't mean they are sorcerors or whatever. A lot of sorcerors used mind-altering drugs in order to enter into trances so they could communicate with demons and the like. But just because someone uses a mind-altering substance doesn't mean that they're satan worshippers or whatever. Let me ask you this: Who made marijauna? God! Why did He make it? Who knowns! Obviously, it is here for something.

Try being suicidal half your life and have every antidepressant fail you, then come to me and let me know what your opinion is on MJ then.

You cannot break the law and serve God. I have no answer for you for your depression only your doctor can give you advise on that.

You may not want to admit it but using Mary Jane is criminal activity and that makes you an active criminal.

This is my opinion.

Marijuana is prescribed by many doctors for the treatment of many conditions. It has, in fact, also been proven to have anti-carcinogenic properties (when smoked alone, not with tobacco) and the only reason it's treated any differently than any other prescription drug is because it's illegal in a lot of places.

I would think that God would not punish you for your marijuana use, so long as it's responsible. Why? Because if you're happy, you praise God in your life and words, and if marijuana is making you happy, surely this is what God wants?

The poster who said that Adderall is speed was right - the speed addicts buy on the streets is normally ground-up ADHD medication. Most people do not know this... it's just another prohibited and illegal street drug that actually has a brilliant medicinal use, just like marijuana.

Rastafarians believe in Jesus, although their religion is different from Christianity in many ways, and they are known for toking up - they're famous for it.

See if it's possible to get a legal prescription of medical marijuana, and if it's not, then I don't see what would be so wrong about growing your own and smoking it, or buying some from a dealer. If it's helping you, medical studies don't show that it alone is damaging to your health, and it prescribed by doctors round the world all the time, what's the big deal?

You wont be condemned to eternal damnation for smoking pot.

Adderall can be a very dangerous medication for people with any heart condition at all.

On the other hand, the guilt you will apparently experience if you use cannabis may be a lasting source of misery and pain.

You should find a good psychiatrist who will help you to overcome your problems using both psychology and with appropriate medication if needed.

The antidepressants often prescribed by our family doctors are very usefull and all that some people require, but in some cases the expertise of a specialist is required.

Good luck. I sincerely hope you overcome your problems.

I had depression and total insomnia, for 8 months!!!
I smoked a J and took it as my new medication. I needed one in the morning, so I could relax and survive the day, one in the evening nd half just before bed. After a few days I took on tennis. Played almost everyday for a month (my aunt paid for it) and 2 3 times a week after.
While diminishing J smoking.
After 2 months in total I quit completely, and just live on my normal life.

It's 3 years later, I'm married and happy.

I know for future ref. that I must take it easy. Enjoy each day's rest, exercise well and sleep well......
And I must take this seriously if I want to stay well....

Copied and pasted this:

Rather than rely on a single text and pretend to defend it as the one true Bible, two different, widely available, and respected Bibles are used to show that the conclusions reached are not a fluke of some spurious translation.

The selection of these versions is arbitrary. Any scholarly study/chain link Bible can be used to reach exactly the same conclusions. These Bible translations were separated by 76 years of intense scholarly research and produced by two independent groups. The two Bibles used for this study are:
The Authorized (King James) Version. Using The Scofield Reference Bible, Copyright 1900,1917 by the Oxford University Press.
The New American Standard Translation. Using the Ryrie Study Bible, Copyright 1976, 1978 by The Moody Bible Institute of Chicago.

Old and New Testament verses are used to show continuity in God's treatment of marijuana. God's mind has not changed.

Primary Old Testament verse is Genesis 1:29. This verse will show us God's intent for all seed-bearing plants, which includes marijuana. Primary New Testament verses are 1 Timothy 4:1-4. These verses show God's contempt and condemnation for those people who are opposed to marijuana in any way.

It is appropriate for us to review these verses in their entirety. For convenience they are reproduced here:

Genesis 1:29. The New American Standard Translation.
Then God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you."

Genesis 1:29. The Authorized Version.
And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

I really don't think there's anything wrong with it. No one seems to have problems with any other herbal remedies, marijuana just has this stigma surrounding it. It's not synthetically altered like other illicit substances, You pick it, you dry it, you smoke it.
Ultimately it's you who has to live with this descision, just put some thought into it, do some research and reading, and some introspection. You'll come up with the right answer. Just be sure you're not using it to escape and continue to work through your problems. Also "weed robs you of your ambition", so you will need to put forth extra effort in this area.

Okay, memory is getting bad these days so bear with me.
The word translated witchcraft in the N.T. is in the Greek pharmocopeia(?) which refers to the use of drugs. It is the word we get pharmacy, pharmaceutical, etc. from.
Witchcraft did involve the use of drugs, so the meaning/translation isn't far off.
Drug use is NOT for a person that is following Christ.
There is no way a person whose mind is influenced by drugs
(which is carnal, in the flesh) can be used of God, led by God.
About depression, feeling and moods do come and go. Ups and downs are a natural happening to everyone. I do think that it may be you bought into someone else's definition of you, and you think there's an "illness".
Jesus CAN remove any problem we have, or think we have, if we ask and allow Him to.

salvation is a "The gift of God is eternal life thru Jesus Christ our Lord" Romans 5. you can not earn a "gift" therefore you cannnot loose it.

I was healed of mental disease (depression one of them) this last January. I had a dream about Jesus and when I woke up I knew that I had been healed and threw away my medications. My doctor is amazed that I am a very different person. He will do the same for you. That is why He died, so that you could be free from this disease. He will bring back your joy and love for life. I have walked in your shoes and understand what you are experiencing. I will pray for you.

I don't believe you can lose your salvation since salvation is not based on works. However, I don't recommend smoking marijuana, especially if it is illegal in your state. I'm no doctor, but you should consider other options as well, such as counseling and other *legal* drug options. Talk to your doctor and also your pastor or a trusted friend or mentor about your worries.

If you have in God, do not lost it Ben. Do not change your faith to God in smoking pot or any other cigarrette to smoke. It is not allowed by God according to the bible, because it will only destroy your human body flesh. That is your own personal welfare and good. God love you and love Him with all your might and give respect to Him. Good that you have repented but do not go back to your former situation and do not be a backslider. OK?
