That's Old Testament theory. New Testament tells us that we are not do not gain favor (salvation) by our good works but by our acceptance of Christ as the Son of God and our Savior.

Yes, I think God favors a good man, but not always the way we expect. I believe Job was chosen to learn that God is God and we must be faithful to Him. After Job went through the trial, and after God showed him what he needed to learn, God restored all that he had lost . But being a good person does not save us. Only trust in God's son Jesus can do that.
