what age did u introduce a spoon?

at what age did ur child start to use a spoon? and how did u teach them?!

I started giving my children a spoon for them to try as I fed them their rice cereal when they were about 4 months old. Both would try and get some food into their mouth. I feel that letting them try is the only way for them to learn. They are smarter than most people think and want to try things on their own. Good luck and have fun with it..

I started feeding the rice ceral mixture at around 4 monthes, and at that time I would usually let her experiment with the spoon, you know let her hold it, and let her explore to see if she could get it in her mouth. We didnt start letting her hold it with food on it until about 7 monthes, by that time, she knew and associated a spoon with eating so she knew where it went, but we only did this at home where she could splatter it all over herself and the kitchen and we could easily clean it up. Once she had a hang of it then we let her try it when we visited people or resturants

1. My son started using a fork then too. He didn't want to be fed anymore. He is 3 now, and without even being shown...just by watching us, he knows how to properly hold a fork and spoon, and likes to try to use a plastic knife to "Cut" things on his plate.

when they started trying to grab my spoon i gave them one (maybe 7 months)Then they would try to put it in the bowl to get food. I would let them and they would probably put every5 spoon in by themselves with me feeding inbetween. By 12-14months they could do it themselves but not properly(or should I say fast enough LOL) so I would do it too.

when my girls were still eating baby food i let them work a spoon.

just strip them down and let them at it!
