Pope John Paul II promoted social justice by supporting the Polish Solidarity movement which directly led to the freedom of Poland and the end of the Soviet Union. He also campaigned for world debt forgiveness.

Pope John Paul followed the teachings of the Church, which promotes social justice for children, the elderly, immigrants (legal and illegal), and prisoner...even murderers. Pope Benedict does so as well as the highest ranking leader of the Church.
