I have a 15 month old quaker parrot named pixel! i have just noticed that her feathers are no longer as well kept as she usulaly keeps them. Also, she does not as willingly come out of her cage for me. I've also noticed a few blood feathers on her and larger feathers on the bottom of her cage. What is going on? IS she sick or something? Thanks!

She's going through her molt. Her feathers are falling out and being replaced by new ones (that's why you see blood feathers). She is irritable and cranky, because the new feathers growing in can be uncomfortable. Give her a few weeks, and she'll be fine!

Here's a great article on molting: http://www.birdsnways.com/wisdom/ww20e.htm

Im Mary's daughter. I have a job a petco, And i work with birds more then half of my work days. It sounds like your bird is lacking attention... Try buying her some new toys ... swings, mirrors, ect. and a cuttle bone or so. If the problem persists take her to a vet. But be sure that you are able to provide her with "all eyes on her time" all birds need to be whistled at an talk to to remain healthy.

The plucking of the feathers and the lack of care to her feathers is a big sign that she is feeling loney.

Also having a partner for her is a great idea because they feed off of each others energy witch helps them feel less alone!

Good luck!!!

She sounds like she may be going through a molt - ours get pretty shabby looking when they molt too. She could be moody because of this. Pin feathers hurt and are uncomfortable, sometimes my snuggliest quakers don't want to cuddle when they're molting. Some of my favorite quaker parrot sites with information on them are:

your parrot lived for ten complete years -- (40yrs previous in human years) and also you do not understand to take your chook to an Avian qualified vet at the same time as he's clearly very ill? might want to be something from heart attack, to mind anurism, to poisoning from fumes or from chewing on rubber or something. i'm sorry for your loss. at the same time as a chook is as ill as you describe, that's probable too overdue for a vet besides. (for sure you ought to have taken it to the vet once you suspect something changed into incorrect, notwithstanding the opportunity of surviving the holiday TO the vet changed into small besides.) a vet can nevertheless inform you what killed the chook. you're probable a good chook proprietor who loves his chook, and also you ought to probable get yet another one in case your grieving for this one and your room seems empty with out it. yet previously you get yet another chook, do a search for on amazon for "parrot" or "parakeet" and skim a e book that tells you ideas to look after birds, because interior the perfect 10 years on my own -- interior the ten years because to procure this chook it extremely is -- the technology of chook-conserving has stepped ahead a great deal, and we now understand a lot extra about a thanks to look after a chook and a thanks to ineract with it than we knew 10 years in the past at the same time as i'm assuming to procure this chook. i'm no longer positive even there have been Avian qualified vets 10 years in the past? I in difficulty-free words got here upon out about them 5 years in the past by ability of studying books alongside with the african gray i purchased.
