You will have to get a marriage license before going to get married. They can't legally marry you without signing the marriage license. You have to get a marriage license at least a week before you get married depending on your state. Contact your local courthouse to find out when you need to get one and what information you need to get one. Once you fill out the information to get a license then they send the actual license to you and you have to get it signed after you say your vows at the courthouse. It then gets processed. There will be a judge or clerk at the courthouse to marry you. They can legally marry you and you don't need a pastor. You can have a ceremony later but you will already be married so it will be more like renewing your vows. They won't marry you at the courthouse without a license to sign.

my understanding is that you get a justice of peace. Its not a religious cermoney, i believe its only a few min long. Basically do you take his man/woman? Yes? Great! Kiss! and off you go. There is no relation to any higher creator, its just simple and legal binding.
If you were looking to go the religious route, you should stick with the church or your place of worship
O and a justice of peace will be 'assigned' to you by the city/court, so you wont need to find one. But you might want to call ahead to make sure one is at the courthouse the day you wanna get married

No...it is a justice of the peace. There are no pastors at the courthouse. It is not a religious ceremony at the courthouse...just a legal committment.

the courthouse will provide a justice of the peace. Pastors aren't the only people who can marry you. JoP's can, as can ship captains if you're out at sea.

Not usually. It's a judge or a justice of the peace that presides at the courthouse.

no not a pastor, i believe they will provide a celebrant for you - that is, they do the same thing as a pastor or minister would but they have no religious ties or incoroprate god into the ceremony at all, its all about the legal side of you getting married

They just have the Justice of the Peace. However, you can probably find an officiant somewhere who will help you out if you really want one.....
