why do so many people assume the mexicans are the only immigrants coming to the us?

there are immigrants from all over the world the asians the arabics the europeans the rest of latin america . Yet so people seem to think that the only immigrants are coming from mexico yes it's the majority because it's the country closest. I was born and raised in this country i work hard and i have a great job i have never felt that my right as a U.S. citizen are jeopordized due to immigration. I think many people who can't get good jobs or are in a finacial rut tend to us immigration as a scape goat.

Hey, no one is complaining about Mexican immigrants or immigrants form any other country, the complaint is from ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, and those are by far Mexican, now I do not blame them for coming here, I would do the same, but if you are here illegally for years and have not even tried to become legal then you deserve to be deported.

Because they do constitute the majority of Illegal immigrants - and it's illegals that people are upset about. (Most welcome legal immigrants - yes, even from Mexico).

Furthermore, some Americans have trouble telling a Mexican from a Salvadorean or other native spanish speaker, so the fact that an even larger majority of illegals come from Latin America, as a whole, decieves people into thinking the overwhelming majority are 'Mexicans.'

Add to that the fact that Latin immigrants tend to settle in specific areas, and those living in these areas get a first-hand impression of overwhelming numbers of them - and few others.

It's an unfortunate misconception that can cause people to overlook the importance of deporting /all/ illegals, without regard to race, or the vital security issue of securing means of ingress other than the southern border (including simply overstaying visas).

I believe the MAJORITY of ILLEGAL immigrants are indeed MEXICANS. While there are many other immigrants; Asians, Indians, Russians, Canadians, Brits, Aussies, etc....they tend to go through legal channels and get work permits, then progress to permanent resident status then become legal citizens. Mexicans for whatever reason seem to feel they are exempt from the rules. They are sucking the system dry and our economy is suffering. Most immigrants contribute to the economy in that they are productively employed and paying taxes. I think you may have meant to re-word your question?

Obviously you have not been in or around the southern states where they are know issuing ID's to illegal Mexicans in order for them to receive free health care and still not pay ANY taxes. People NEVER thought that Mexicans were the only immigrants coming..they are the only one's pouring into our economy.

Why does it seem that most illegal immigrants are Mexican ? Now that is a fact most of them are breaking the laws here and would say there government is encouraging the law breaks there to come here! People know that Mexicans aren't the only immigrants here, but it is much easier for them to get in illegally (by simply crossing the border) than for some others who might come from halfway around the world. (Although some others have slipped in through Canada.)

They don't - but over 80% of all recent immigrants are Mexican; more to the point, over 95% of the illegal immigrants are Mexican. And yes, illegal immigrants are criminals, and they cheapen the value of true citizenship. No amount of petulant, condescending race-baiting on your part is going to change that fact.

The overwhelming majority of illegal aliens are Mexican. In FL, it is the South Americans and Cubans. The rest are minuscule compared to these others.

First off I'm baffled to hear that anyone IS defending illegal immigration (besides the pro-hispanic groups and organizations). And why should they? The media tells you - they get unemployment, they don't pay taxes, they don't work or they're taking jobs away from hard-working Аmericans. Do YOU know whether this is true or not? I have a couple of things to say.

1. Less than 100 years ago all it took to go to America was to get on a boat. These people would get off at Ellis Island, the immigration officer would ask them their name and where they were from and grant them (permanent) entry (with work authorization) to the United States. Period. So don't state that your grandparents were LEGAL immigrants just because they didn't have to hop over a fence. (Which I'm sure they would have gladly done to get here.)

2. Everybody that works and lives here pays taxes. EVERYBODY. The State tax, Federal Tax, Social Security tax and Medicare tax are TAKEN away from your paycheck just as they are taken away from everybody else's here. There's also of course - Sales tax, Property tax, the list goes on and on. And they all apply to EVERYONE.

3. Nobody in this country receives unemployment financial assistance unless they can prove they're an American citizen (i.e. holds a birth certificate or a valid passport. Period.)

4. Every economy has a certain pool of unskilled, low paid, undesirable jobs that needs to be filled to keep those businesses going. Cleaning toilets, working the 5am shift at McDonald's, hard construction work, sweating over a grill for 8 hours - all for minimum wage. You know what they say - "minimum wage for a maximum loser". Breaking news - Corporate America cares only for ONE THING and ONE THING ONLY - the bottomline cost. Do you think they want to pay YOU $15.00 plus benefits to flip burgers? Think again. They'll take that restaurant to China before they do.

5. And please don't talk about "made an effort to become a citizen". All these people that babysit your children, cook your food when you dine out, mow your lawn, change your oil, clean your room when you go to a hotel - WOULD GIVE A KIDNEY to become citizens. There's just NO WAY in the system for them to do so.

It's overly apparent that big business WANTS these people here to exploit their labor. They're the new slave class - all of the responsibility - none of the (human) rights. But Corporate America can't come out and say it - that would be politically incorrect. Corporate America also can't tell the American people they don't give two shits if this country speaks English, Spanish or Mandarin as long as they're still the ruling class and profit from those people's hard work and misery.

DON'T BLAME THE FLAWS OF CAPITALISM ON IMMIGRANTS. THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT YOU TO DO. WHO ARE THEY? THEY'RE THE ONE F***ING RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS MESS - THE BIG BUSINESS THAT OWNS YOUR GOVERNMENT!!!
