no yolks/yolks. Whitle cakes are usually lighter than yellow. I like yellow better.

Aside from the color, there's not much difference. The cake mixes available today have the basic vanilla flavor that require only water, oil and eggs to be added. Lemon cake mix would of course be yellow, to make it attractive and describe the flavor (lemons are yellow). Some cake mixes are described as White Vanilla Cake, or Yellow Vanilla Cake, where some additional vanilla flavoring is added to give an Enhanced Vanilla Taste. Then there's the Butter Recipe versions, which also come in yellow or white, where some amount of butter is required. It all boils down to the person baking the cake, what occasion the cake is being made for, as well as the fillings and frostings to be used. I use the Yellow cake mixes for Pineapple Upside-Down Cake, as well as other recipes that call for a yellow cake (more to do with making the cake attractive to eat). The Butter Recipe Cake mixes are specially good if you are making Rum Butter Cake. I use the White cake mixes when I need to use food coloring in the mix, for example, to make Mocha or Kahlua Cake. Or you can use it to make special occasion cakes, like Orange and Black for Holloween, Pink and Red for Valentine's, etc. HAPPY BAKING !!!

The difference really depends on the recipe. like if it is just Yellow cake or if its butter cake. The recipes i currently use on my job, the white cake is more of a buttery or creamy flavor, where as the yellow is more of a vanilla.

White cake I believe has more of a vanilla flavor whereas yellow cake has a buttery flavor.
Why not bake one of each and have friends do a taste test?!

Egg yolk, I think. Don't quote me on that, though. I prefer white cake to yellow. I like the flavor better.
