They're so afraid that they can't understand why we're not.
It's very sad.

Because you are going to hell for your sin and rejection of your creator. You may not believe, but why? If what we believe is true, we must tell you for your own sake, and to obey Christ. Now, if you can't stand a reasonable discussion about the matter, or you don't want to risk believing something that might be true because then you will be responsible for your actions, then you are like an ostrich that puts its head in the sand and tries to convince himself there is nothing above the ground. Just as anything of sincere importants deserves to be fully examined, so do you need to fully examine why you do not believe, and why what Christians believe is so unreasonable. Eternity is at stake if you are wrong, and if you are right, then be right because you have truly worked through the issues. Christians are motivated by love, and even a policeman will grab a suicidal person off a ledge, even though that person wants to die. He can't be thinking straight, and neither is the atheist.

Because we have a duty to share the truth in the hopes even just a few people with believe. Most won't, but if I lead just one person in my entire lifetime to Christianity then I will have felt like I have truly done something to help humanity. The misconception is that we are trying to make ourselves look good by telling others they're going to hell... just awhile back I made a post here clarifying that point... the difference between us and non-Christians is that we have accepted the saving grace of Christ and want to live a life pleasing to him as a result. We are still just as fully capable of doing wicked deeds as anyone else. I would like to quote myself on another post by saying that the measure of goodness is the measure of how much you realize you are NOT good, if this makes sense. This is why Jesus said that tax collectors and prostitutes are going to be saved before pretty much anyone else because they realize how much they are not good people!

First, I think you underestimate the tolerance of Christians. Second, I think all the above answers are wrong. I think that its not about spreading the Good News or saving people, but that Christians feel they have to convey their beliefs because atheists' beliefs threaten everything that their life is founded on, their very existence. I'm Catholic and I believe myself to be open-minded, but being around atheists and listening to their take on things doesn't compel me to preach, it just makes me very nervous. I can try to accept the logic in beliefs, like religion is a creation of man, but I don't think I ever could and so the idea of atheism isn't something to be fixed or attacked, because well, that's not fair--it's just something that makes believers very, very uncomfortable. I hope that helps you understand some of the negative feelings you've experienced when dealing with Christians regarding your beliefs...

We're not questioning your right to be an atheist. That's not the issue here -- you're the one raising it, not us.
If a person really thinks that another person is going to fall off a cliff, walk unawares into speeding traffic, or go to hell, the decent thing to do would be to try and stop it from happening. Think of it as an attempted act of charity.
Oh, and on the subject of being attacked -- take stock of the "questions" and other statements on this board, and you'll see that the atheists do a fair share of attacking against Christians.

I just try to focus on the intention in their heart. They are trying to *save* non christians which is an act of compassion.
I do take issue with some of the methods utilized.
What I don't understand is why some are so passionately trying to convert everyone. In order for christian prophesy to come to fruition the world needs non believers. They play a major role in that prophetic ending. If everyone was "saved" then the ending is incorrect.

Save us so we can pay into churches.
Of course, most Christians aren't like this, and are nice and leave us alone religiously. But there always is a bad apple.
And yes, I too am an atheist in, out of all places, the bible belt. But, I like it here. I don't talk much about religion so that I avoid being 'attacked'.

Actually we don't feel the need to save atheists as it is not in our power to do so. We just be sharing the "Good news" of salvation! If you don't believe it and say you don't need it so be it. However atheism is also a faith claim as there is no proof there isn't a God and a whole lot of indication there is one. It just might be worth checking out!

As Christians we spread the Good News, we don't save anyone.
When someone is filled with the Holy Spirit, they can't stay quiet of the gift of Salvation, Salvation is not something you want to keep to yourself, You want to share it with others.
If you call sharing the Good News attacking, I don't think you know what it means to be attacked.

Okay, why is it that we cannot even have a moment of silence? It is not a requirement to pray...the Bill of Rights guarantees you that but it seems Atheists are determined to take away those rights and priviledges of All other religious beliefs wherever they can. Secular Humanism Is a religion with a well defined set of rules and beliefs. We share our faith with those who either ask or want to know.

We can't save you. Only God can. I never push my beliefs on others. My approach to spread the good news is neither smothering or weird as some fellow Christians I have seen. I can only tell you the good news you can either accept or reject that's your choice. You will have to give account to the Lord not me. And the fact you say "Atheists will respect our beliefs" is laughable.
