I have one already and want to get another...

mine:
-only barks when someone walks up my verandah
-is house trained
-doesn't bite/chew people/items
-never runs away
pretty much the perfect dog. Yesterday I met my friends dog who is also a girl and desexed- however bites, barks, can't get picked up etc.

What are my chances of getting a chihuahua pup who can learn my currents dogs 'culture'. Or does it simply come down to individual dogs personalities?

my chihuahua is very much like yours.
it could be that some dogs personalities are like that but i don't think that is the norm.
i firmly believe if you get a puppy and you treat it fairly like a dog there is no valid reason for your dog to misbehave like your friends.
if your dog is so well behaved it's a reflection on your behaviour and your control over him.
i think if you do what you did with your first chihuahua and the puppy gets to see the other dog as an example i do think it'll develope into a sweet happy little doggy!

Mine is-
-house trained
-doesn't chew nehtin except her toys
-doesn't bite ppl
-can go off-leash
-on barks when the doorbell rings, somebody is in "her" yard, or there is a squirrel in the back
-loves cuddle/pciked up

I think with the right training you can get a new chi pup to behave like your current one.

I've got 2 chihuahuas, one is 5 and the other is 10 months. The baby seems to be picking up traits of the older one.

Well mine we just recently got. She is
-Dog aggressive
-A momma's girl!
-Loves chewing my shoes (grrr....)
-is somewhat house trained. SHe is still getting used to the idea.
- Doesn't like males

I do not blame her for these things. She has had many owners in the past. we think her previous owner was male and beat her (her ear is torn up and when we first got her she had cuts). She only chews my shoes so she can get used to my scent. Many dogs do this. She hasn't really gotten ahold of our rules. She still cowers alot.

My 4 are pretty much like yours. It depends on the breeding and if you train them how well they turn out. Do it right and you will have a well behaved companion. Do it wrong and you will have problems.

My dog is only part Chihuahua. But is a nerotic dog that needs to be tranquilized to see a vet.She either loves you or hates you.So we have to be careful around strangers. She is our baby and loves to play.
