My dad told me over the summer that he had cancer. I knew something was wrong when he was getting surgery that left him in pain. From what I could gather from him, the cut from the surgery started about 2 inches from his upper chest and went a long way down past his waist line. I asked him what type of cancer he had, and all he told me was something about his lymph nodes. I have doing research, but I just can't make sense of what I find.

He isn't taking any meds- he started chemotherapy about a month ago. He also told me it is a very curable cancer, but we have always been so close and I feel that he doesn't want to tell me exactly what type of cancer he has because I would be constantly worried. I really appreciate all of you who have responded - thank you.

Testicular cancer is a possibility. Men like to keep their private parts private, so he doesn't want to tell you. Testicular cancer is known to have a high cure rate. It also involves an operation that involves removing some lymph nodes that are located towards the back of the abdomen, but the surgeon has to go in through the front of the body to get to those lymph nodes.

The best source of information is your father's doctor. If surgery was done, I am sure medical records exists. I hazard to guess. Lymph nodes are removed but unless the exact type of cancer is known, there is not enough info.

My mother had colon cancer that spread to her lymph nodes, and then ultimately her liver. Lymph nodes are all over your body, so being cut from one end of the other isn't very surprising if he had cancer in his lymph nodes.
