I always have dry food out for my cats also I give them a little wet food in the morning and at night. My baby cat is only 11 weeks old. A few days after we first got him I made chicken and he went crazy climbing on us to get at it and when I gave him some he ate like he was ravenous, like I had been starving him. Like I said there is always food out and I see him munching lots. He does this with roast, steak, any meat he goes CRAZY for. What is going on with him? My big cat will take it or leave it. Usually he will only have a bite, but the baby seems like he would eat as much as he can get, but of course I only give him a bit. He is still small. Why is he like this???? (only have given him well cooked meat. I will never give raw!)
Help it seems so odd to me!

I give them dry food that has no preservatives or fillers and is high in protein. I researched to find it because I agree with you Cany, most animal food is crap!

About giving raw meat you guys are right! That’s what they would normally eat, I’m just scared to make them sick, so I don’t risk it.

I have a cat that is 7 months old. She does the same exact thing. We feed her the wet food in the morning, the wet food for lunch, and the wet food for dinner and we always have hard food and water availible for her. When we make chicken, stake, or pretty much any kind of meat, she gobbles it down like we have been starving her. Your cat and my cat have the same thing in common, we both feed our cat the same and what I think is that our cats just love the food and they think it's a treat they can get every once in a while. If I had to give you 1 tip, it would be to feed youur cat a lunch. But other than that, your cat is completly fine!!!!

He's just a kitty and our food tastes better, plus it smells a lot better too!!! One way to entice him to eat his dry food instead is to add a tad of water and put in the microwave for a few seconds. This will enhance the smell and make it more desired. It's fine to give your kitten a treat once in a while but don't do it every time you have food or he will never leave you alone. This is especially true if you ever have guests over, some people may be put off by a begging cat, or dog for that matter, especially if they get spastic and act like they are starved. You don't want him climbing on your guests to get food.
another thing you can do is to add the meat right to his dish with the dry food, or try adding a little bit of the juice to it. This seems to satisfy my cat without him actually eating my dinner!!
Good Luck by the way, sounds like your kitten is a pistol!!

Nothing wrong with meats as snacks as cats are carnivores. it's the dry food that is not good for your cats, You cannot feed plain cooled or deli meat all the time though as they need other nutrients

Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s health
Contrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.
Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean? Is the first ingrdiant a muscle meat like chicken or meal or other things?
http://www.catinfo.org/#Learn_How_To_Read_a_Pet_Food_Ingredient_Label
Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s and a host of other problems. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptoms
The problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process them. Also, Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food but in
Dry, 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and don't use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.
You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn't have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Does a hard pretzel clean your teeth or do pieces of it get stuck? http://www.felinefuture.com/nutrition/bpo_ch4a.php

This is very normal. Kittens will usually eat anything they can get their little paws on, so be careful about that, of course! Of course meat is going to intice your little one because that is what he craves. As long as his weight is good (growwing normally, etc), and he has been dewormed, I do not think this is abnormal behavior.

Regarding your comment "I would never give raw!" Raw meat is what a cats natural diet consists of. The healthiest diet for a cat would be a diet of raw meat, but only if you know exactly what you are doing because you have to add suppliments when they are not eating a freshly killed prey animal. Your cooked meat won't hurt him. He apparently has plenty to eat. His interest is probably less in the meat itself and more in the fact that his humans are eating it. He wants to do what you do, as a sign that he's fully part of your life. After all, he doesn't understand that he's a cat. He's just a person with a smaller and ready-clothed body. I've known cats to really carry on until we shared our food with them. Some of them would eat it, but others just sniffed it and walked away. The sharing was the central idea.

Same thing happened to me, they realise it is food more like they would get in nature, that's why you're getting a far more primal response. Nothing wrong with it.
What I do now is actually give my cat boiled chicken as a wet meal whever I can with a tiny bit of chicken liver mixed in instead of the nonsense they put into tins. Cooked or raw chicken, he simply loves it and as he gets older he is calming down more and more. Raw chicken is very healthy for them. It's not like in nature they get steaks cooked and delivered, their systems are built for raw meat.

My cats do this. It is totally normal. I have my older cat who is almost timid to eat a piece of chicken as my kitten goes CRAZY. Remember, the canned stuff doesn't taste NEARLY as good as the real thing. It's a normal thing though, so don't worry :) Your cat just has more demanding taste buds than the other!

ADD: I feed my cats wet food along with their dry food once a day.

He knows it's 'real food', just make up a plate for him with a quarter cup of cut up meat (no salt or pepper) and let him stuff himself, it should be fine. That way he won't try to take yours.

The others have gone through this phase already, but it's all brand new to the kitten. Let him have his fun but not while stealing things off your plate.

Cats are carnivores... MEAT should be 100% of their diet.

Free feeding dry, and from my perspective dry period, should not be given cats. It is full of filler.

Meat is meat is meat. just don't give them any meat with spices. As much as they want.

And, BTW, cats are fine on raw diets. you just have to know how to do it correctly.
