I'm sorry, but I don't think that anyone should DIE for any cause. Your life shouldn't even be put on the table for anything but defending it or someone else's. I find no honor in martyrdom. And I know of no atheists that have martyred themselves.

Dieing for your cause is stupid... Dead people are useless to make changes upon anything. Who would have been impressed by a skinny dead Gandhi... ?
Living to advance your cause... now that's wisdom and it's something that's really impressive.

Would you not like to be remembered for what you did for your belief? If you believe that something is wrong to the point of giving up your life, people of like minded should revere you. There are martyrs in other religions, including atheism.

I am a Christian, and gave a "thumbs up" to six of your seven answers so far, but it did cross my mind that suicide bombers are also martyrs to their causes, and that did not make me feel comfortable in the slightest.

Because they suffered persecution and death for something they believed was important but did not bow to external pressure to recant their beliefs.

we can't even sacrifice our ego let alone our life---that makes them stars in my book because I know about my problem with pride and this is true for most people too.
