Far-sightedness is caused by the shape of the cornea being flat and the image falling behind the retina. Presbyopia is caused by the inability of the crystalline lens losing it's ability to change shape to bring the image into focus. Presbyopia USUALLY occurs sometime after the age of 40, but can happen earlier or later on in life. People with presbyopia will have an "add" power on their prescription.

well, I am no eye doctor, but near-sightedness is the inability to see things that are far away. Short-sightedness is a frame of mind - not an actual eye diagnosis. Someone who is shortsided does not see things in a global way, but are more close minded and fail to look at all factors.
