Is it pain, or itching.? Foster & Smith, a large, widely respected mail-order pet store (around looong before the internet) publishes a list of common household meds that can be used in animals on a short-term basis.

According to the doctors:

Buffered aspirin can be given 8-12 mg per pound of the dog's body weight, every 12 hours.

Benadryl, for itching, can be given one-half mg. per pound of dogs weight every 8 hours, up to a max. dose of 2 mg. per pound.

If the pain continues tommorrow, call the vet. Sounds a bit like that old joke, take two aspirin and call me in the morning, but to be safe, that is the best bet.

And, note that Drs. Foster and Smith call for buffered aspirin. Just like us, our four-footed friends can be a bit sensitive to "regular aspirin."

If your vet didn't dispense any pain meds then do NOT give her any. If the vet had felt she needed them he would have dispensed them. It is rare for a dog to need pain meds for an ear infection.
Your vet knows what is best for your GSD/Golden Retreiver/Lab mix..way more then any one on the internet..so follow his advice and ONLY his advice!!!

Yes there is something that you can give her for this, you can give your dog childrens asprin, or baby's asprin. If you would like to know for sure you can always call an animal hospital and they will tell you for sure. If you have any more questions for me feel free to ask away!!

GOOD LUCK!! CARRIE

The vet can give you something like Rimydel, or you can buy veterinary buffered asprin. You can't use any regular pain relievers for dogs, it'll destroy their liver.

No you can not give her anything.
The antibiotic will kick in, in about 24hrs and the pain will soon be gone.
