Have you called around to other vet clinics nearby? It normally is a pretty cheap thing to euthanise a cat. Like 10-15 bucks...so try other vet hospitals and if it still is a outrageous over priced amount then if you need to do it yourself get a box, cut a hole and get a tube to hook to your exhaust pipe into the box and he will feel no pain from carbon monoxide putting him to sleep...that's the only way other than a bullet I can suggest to do yourself. We had to put down our cat who was run over with a bullet, it is quick and done instead of him suffering driving to town then being in a strange smelling vet clinic getting more afraid.

I had to euthanize Alexander about a month ago. The bill was $77. Alexander was a patient at the clinic and I was not charged for an office call on top of that.
Our local humane society will euthanize a cat for $50. Unfortunately they don't allow you to be with the cat when the procedure is done.

Call around and get some other fees from other vets. Also, be sure and explain the situation. Someone has got to cut you and the ktty a break. It's 40 bucks for euthanasia at my vet.
In fact, I'd start with a call to the local animal shelter (city pound) or humane society... explain the situation to them. If they are worth their salt, they'll work with you on this.

First get a second opinion on treating this, most seizures can be treated and the animal can lead a mostly normal life. People are way too quick to want to put to sleep a cat with seizures, not realising that it's very very treatable.

First of all, I'm very sorry that your cat is sick. It hurts when a beloved pet gets ill and has to be put down. I recently had to put a cat down and was charged $30.00, this is in southeast Michigan.
I would call several vets offices in your area and see if someone will do it for a more reasonable price.
Again, so sorry. =(

It should only cost about $60 to have him put down at the vet.
Animal shelters provide euthanasia at very little to no cost. Call your local animal control center and ask for information about euthanasia services they offer.

I am really sorry. I had to put my cat down too. Personally, I would try a different vet or go to a shelter. It shouldn't be very expensive.

Try a different vet, or a humane society. There shouldn't be an outrageous fee for euthanasia.

Call the humane society. They'll do it for you without it costing a fortune. Sorry to hear about your cat, hun. Take care.

you could take him to a shelter that euthanizes. But first I'd call another vet.
