Hi slugbug,
You might be twins but you have a life of your own & so does he. Of course, he might be hurt & you might be guilty, but you two have to get over this. This is just the beginning. What happens when you become adults & he can't find a decent job? You won't work either? what if you have a girlfriend & he doesn't have, you'll dump the girl?? Go ahead with the b-ball. But for your own peace-of-mind, talk with him & tell him how much you want him to be on the team. The best you can do is encourage him to try again next year and help him improve his game. For the meantime while you're in b-ball, he might find some activities to his liking. When you love someone, you should not stunt his/her growth. At the same time, you should not stunt your own growth either. It will turn out just fine, my friend.

I know where you are coming from. I tried out for madricals and so did my sister and she is older then me. I made it and she didnt. It made me feel bad for her and I thought about not doing it because she was the eldest and didn't make it.
but I did it anyway and she told me that I should because I made it in the first place. she was happy for me.. so I would say do it because each of you are different and someday your twin may get something you didn't get.. so.. does this mean he doesn't do it?
You each have your own life and to do with it as you should.

Of course you should try out.I have boy/girl twins and they both try out for some of the same things.Sometimes they don't both make it,but they are supportive of one another. The hardest thing for them is realizing that they are two seperate people with seperate interests. But,they do manage to find their individualities.

Nope it does not mean that. You are two people, not one and sometimes you are going to succeed at things your twin will not, and vice versa. That's life. He should be happy for you, but don't rub it in his face.

If you wanted to do it before he tried out, then go for it...If you are doing it just to surpass him then don't. Life is not a competition and he should be happy for you.
