One drink is not a sin. Getting drunk isn't even a sin, I don't think. But the Bible does say it's dumb to do (Prov 31:4-7 is one example). Personally, I don't drink at all. I'm not against it, but too many people these days drink to get drunk. My husband likes to drink to the point of drunkenness, so I mostly don't drink to be a strong example to him. Last night he dumped out the rest of his bottle to try to "do better." =) In my opinion, almost everything alcoholic can taste just as good without the alcohol, especially if you're into the fruity drinks. Try ordering it virgin sometime, then you won't even have the judgment impairment you get from one drink.

I'm a Catholic. We believe that alcohol must be used moderately, like food, candy or anything else. God does not forbid the use of alchohol only the abuse of it.
On the other hand, there is no sense in distinguishing between somewhat drunk and very drunk. In both cases, you have crossed the line.
Christians who argue against the use of all alcohol can find no basis in the Bible since the words used for wine, including the wine that Jesus drank, mean common wine with an alcoholic content.

Jesus didn't turn water into wine at the wedding of Cana so it could just sit there.
You are correct on this one. Drinking an alcoholic beverage is not wrong, but getting drunk may be. Any action which will cause you to be less inhibited and may lead you to making a fool out of yourself or other poor decisions has the possibility of being sinful. I'm not sure if drukenness is necessarily sinful, but it could certainly facilitate sinful or foolish acts.

I do not believe it is a sin, but others do and the bible says that if it is sin to you then it's sin.
I used to drink alcohol whenever my wife and I would go out to dinner, then I thought about it and asked myself "Why?" My answer was, "It's just social drinking." Then I asked myself, "Why not drink a Coke, or water socially?" The only answer I had was that I wanted to get buzzed. That to me is a sin, so I decided not to drink alcohol anymore.
I heard a sermon once where Greg Laurie said that the Bible says it is a sin to get drunk. He then said that he discovered an interesting thing - Everyone who gets drunk drinks, so he chooses not to drink, because that way he can never get drunk.
I hope your question is how much sin can you get away with.

Given the fact that wine was the beverage of choice when Jesus was alive (water supply was just not safe), I think it's safe to say that drinking responsibly is not a problem. I choose not to drink at all, mainly because I think alcoholic beverages are the most vile tasting swill in the world, and I can't imagine why anyone would drink them on purpose. But as long as you are responsible about consuming alcoholic beverages, then I see no problem with it.

Your friend has a hyper-rigid belief about alcohol being sinful. If you're not an alcoholic, and you're 21 and not having to drive a car, go ahead and enjoy a drink or two.
Remind your friend that Jesus provided wine to a wedding party in Cana and probably drank some of it, himself.

No - the Catholic Church doesn't hold that a drink or two is a sin. Being drunk is a sin though.
Christ's first public miracle was of changing water into wine (not grape juice), so I doubt He was enabling everyone to sin!

they make daquari and pinia colada without alcohol. My question is why bother with the alcohol at all. When you read your bible it is pretty clear that alcohol makes God unhappy. You aren't trying to get drunk, you say that yourself. So why even bother with it? Why mess with it? Why play with dancing around the edge and compromising and allowing yourself to come THAT close to what you know IS a sin? What happens in a weak moment? What happens when you say "I'll just get a buzz this one time, and that's it"? Why even open that door?

You do comprehend Jesus and His disciples drank wine, desirable? In some cultures that's ideal to have a tumbler of wine with dinner. on an identical time as that's healthful for the middle, by way of the years it could aggravate the liver, and it would desire to be appropriate to an greater danger of breast maximum cancers. As you pronounced, the Bible says being inebriated is a sin, yet nowhere does it say you would be unable to drink. Like something in existence, moderation is fundamental. it is, of direction, taken out of context, yet Scripture says that no remember in case you consume or drink to do it to the honour of God. as long as that's not harming your physique, the temple of the Holy Spirit, in case you prefer to drink and you at the instant are not overdoing it, what's the wear and tear? undergo in strategies, for risk-free practices's sake, in case you bypass out and drink, shop a watch on your drink so no one slips something in it. greater desirable to be risk-free than sorry.

No what we consume will pass away as dung, the only place that good or evil lay is within a person, it is what comes from the inside of a person out towards the rest of the world that is either good or evil. Moderation is OK, Excess is harmful to the body but neither is a sin.
