Why would he do what? He told you probably because you lead him to telling you that. You still may have a chance with him, just flirt.

In terms of getting a bf in general, I think what you need to do is be yourself. Don't try to be someone else to impress these boys out here.
Your second question, I'll stay away from him if he likes your best friend too. I think friends with him is one but don't have a love triangle start with your best friend cause it could be ugly for you
