I saw on the Yahoo! news today that after the Bishops' conference that they are telling fellow RC's how to vote according to the faith. They say that despite the war and immigration that abortion and the sanctity of life comes first.

Alright, we have REAL crisis going on with the war and immigration that are getting way out of hand and they want people to vote in favor of the unborn fetus? Come on, get your act together and stay out of people's business. By the way, with the overpopulation going on maybe we do need more abortions going on lately.

Yes, killing innocent children sounds like a real solution from someone who espouses that the warror on terror is one of the most difficult situations (I'm assuming that you are opposed to it.) When we turn to killing the most innocent and defenseless, then we have sunk to the lowest of lows as society and war is merely a consequence.

Call to Faithful Citizenship does not tell Catholics how to vote. It says vote on your conscience according to the moral teachings of the church.

Secondly it says do NOT hold one moral teaching of the Church over the other. The US Bishops are the most vocal organization in the United States on war and immigration (both of which in Catholic Social Teaching fall under the sanctity of life issue. Read Catholic Social teaching and you will see) as well as the death penatly. Also preferential option for the poor, Work education, living wages, and many many more things. The Bishops issue document after document on all of these issues, letter after letter and meeting after meeting on all of the crisis issues.

Call to Faithful citizenship states "Catholics are not single issue voters" and must take all teachings equally into account when they vote and vote for the candidate that most encompasses the teachings, none will encompass them all.

Why don;t you get your act together and actually know what the teachings are and what the documents say before you go and say things about something you know nothing about. (which obviously more then one militant anti-abortion Catholic does not know this either, but you are only perpetuating the myth and giving them more ammunition)

Also Call to Faithful Citizenship has been published every national election cycle by the US Bishops since 1976 and you are just now noticing. Think about it if you did not even know it has existed for 30 years what are the odds you have the story on what it means right.

EDIT: Because of Julia I wish to say she is right on one point Call to Faithful Citizen does not endorse any candidates or any party. Nor does the USCCB (Uniteds States Conference of Catholic Bishops). Nor does the Catholic Church. However she is incredibly wrong to say that the bishops or any other Catholic enity says it is ok to overlook a political candidates stance on other life issues including fair wage, death penalty, immigration, war, poverty or anything because they have an anti-abortion stance. That is a direct contradiction of what Call to Faithful Citizenship says and means.

unborn fetuses are living human beings too - the most innocent and vulnerable of all human beings. There are those who acknowledge this vulnerability by killing them via abortion. And then there are those who acknowledge their vulnerability by speaking out in their favor because they cannot defend themselves.

The War on Terror and immigration are serious problems but both of those problems put together have not done the damage to humanity that abortion has. 40 million American infants have been put to death LEGALLY through institutionalized abortion.

The idea that the earth is overpopulated is absurd. Have you ever traveled and seen the amount of open space there is in this country? There is plenty of room for tens of millions more people in America alone.

Besides, that's rather selfish of you, to think you have the right to advocate the murder of infants simply because you were here first.

The only reason you're here is because someone elected NOT to abort you.

You may not like it, but it's every Catholics' right and duty to base their vote on what's morally proper. Voting for pro-choice candidates is not morally proper.

I am a pro-life Catholic, and tough if you don't like it.

That is the real point here. It is a serious sin to vote for abortion, as such. However, to vote for a candidate for other reasons other than the obortion issue which he favors might be a tricky point, since there are other means to protest abortion than to vote. The Bishops will have to examine their own consciences if they are using the abortion issue in order to manipulate our two party system one way or another. And that is also a very serious issue.

It is not the Roman Catholics that need "their act together". They are not an act---they are the real thing and there are many today that will wish they were as real as them. Abortion is one of the biggest problems on Earth today. The unchurched say that we don't have to pay any attention to God because we are products of evolution and there is no God and we are just basically an animal---not even animals treat the unborn in this wholesale slaughter like the pro-choice people today. It is not pro-choice it is murder.

You mean the "real" crisis is the war, where soldiers are being killed (yes, I agree with this one) and the immigration crisis? (sorry, I don't see how this one overrides killing innocent babies!!!!!!!!) This just shows you how evil our world has become. To think nothing of killing babies. I would tend to agree with the RC's on this one!

Lauren, you were once a beautiful fetus, in your mother's womb.

Would you like it if someone said the same thing about little you?

Yes, I am Catholic but life is precious and so are YOU!

Many other religions and lobby groups tell their followers/supporters to vote a certain way. It's not the first time nor the last. Either way, they're still free to vote the way they want to vote.

Are you Catholic?

If you're not, butt out. It's none of your business what the bishops do.

If you are Catholic, then I suggest you start practicing the faith that you claim to believe -- and you can start by rethinking your position on the slaughter of the unborn.

The bishops can't endorse particular candidates, but they have just as much a First Amendment right to comment on the issues of the day as any other American. They don't need people like you trying to deny them that right.
