I say this because it's extremely awkward when a certain person hiccups ALL THE TIME, says excuse me, and pretends it never happened. But it happens again and again and there's always a little awkward span of silence! I absolutely HATE awkward.

Most generally I pay no attention to it unless the person comments on it himself or herself.

If I am the one hiccuping I will generally say "excuse me," and the other person can comment as he or she may wish. Other people might be embarrassed by it and may not wish to attract a good deal of attention.
