I always assumed that was what the whole "ashes to ashes, dust to dust" part was about in the Christian funeral ritual, followed by the body being placed in a hole in the ground.
Seems like an incredible waste of good farmland to me, but I guess if you really want to tie up valuable real estate by sticking corpses in it, that's their choice.

Yes, and we put bible verse on our tombstone...but we're not there! We are with Him, and He is with us!!!
"My life is no longer than my hand! My whole lifetime is but a moment to you. Proud man! Frail as breath! A shadow! And all his busy rushing ends in nothing. He heaps up riches for someone else to spend." Psalm 39:5

If mother earth did not give you her substance to grow where did you get it? The earth gave its self so that the fruit could grow, the grass the animals ate, and every other living thing has its beginning from the earth.

"To each his own, said the lady as she kissed the cow."
So, where do you get your silly ideas from, anyway? I mean, is this your idea of grasping for straws when you don't have enough to make a complete straw man?
