Why are there Christians?

Question

Based on your personal observations would you say people are Christian for which of the following reasons:
1)Indoctrined from birth
2)Pascal's wager
3) No critical thinking skills
4) Combination of all the above.

You know there is another possibility, that you really shouldn't ignore especially if you prescribe to "open mindedness". That it is true. That there really is a far greater intelligence that created this universe (and there seem to be many universes), that exists in a higher dimension (and there seem to be at least mathematically 12) and that lives outside of time (time is a property of matter therefore anything outside of this universe would be outside of this time frame) and this intelligence is preparing us to give give us the gift of eternal life in a higher plane (we call heaven). This is not that far fetched, and has been the subject of several popular sci-fi books. Personally I think its quite logical. I don't believe that this universe could exist for 14 billion years with out creating some pretty advanced beings and if this is just one in a long line of universes,(what if existence is trillions of years in the making) it would seem almost improbable that someone or something at this level of creativity and dare I say "divinity" doesn't exist and is slowing making us ready for the next step. Not to see this as a possibility is pretty short sighted and "fundamentally" ego/human centric.

You seem to think that a person can be a Christian ONLY if he/she is indoctrinated or has no critical thinking skills.

If you can't fathom the possibility that being a Christian can (and often is) the result of a well-thought choice by an intelligent person, then I wonder about YOUR critical thinking skills ... ! No offense.

1) Magority of cases yes, but there are the "Born Again" mob. They turn to Christ as an escape from a life of crime, drugs, etc.
2) hmmm, probably!
3) Actually a few do, they just don't apply it to their religion. I think because they fear the concept of no God, and fear can make the most rational person completely irrational.
