Trini and Jason were not an item. Actually, Trini & Billy were crushing on each other, though were never involved. Jason was just being all "manly" & protective of Kimberly & Trini (& personally I think he had a thing for Kimberly...)

Jason and Trine were always with each other, according to Thuy Trang in an interview she had, Jason and Billy were always protective of the girls, including Trini.
