I started to watch what I eat and realized that I'm doing fine on calories, but horrible on sodium. Is there anything I can do to make up for all the sodium I'm taking in? I try to cook with low sodium salt, but it's inevitable in store bought food.

you need to make sure you have a high water intake and are consuming plenty of vegetables.

but the only way to have a high sodium diet is if the diet is high in processed foods. the source of the calories that you ingest is more important than the calories themselves. processed foods are not nutritious despite what the manufacturers of them may lead you to believe. so you need to decrease your processed food intake and start eating more whole foods that are all natural. all calories are not created equal and there is a very different response from the endocrine system when whole foods are consumed vs. processed foods made in factories that are loaded with various chemicals and preservatives.

Hmm well all i can say is since you have now become more health concious and are concerned about what you eat maybe it is time you learn to cook and use the correct ingredients ..its not very difficult as i have found out .. and just takes a little planning in advance to prepare a good meal for everyone..

Supplement with lots of calcium, magnesium and potassium. Many of the negative effects of sodium result from the impact excessive sodium has on the body's levels of the minerals noted.

Well it depends how drunk is the person... Your logic about to replace the fluid is correct and that's why drinking water is advised in between alcoholic drinks (so you won't get trashed because you're helping your liver to flash the alcohol from your system and replace fluid that alcohol chases out of your body therefore you won't be hangover the next day) or in the morning when (most of) the alcohol has been broken down in your body/ when you're no longer being effected by alcohol. (you have to keep replacing the lost fluid the next day too so you won't get headache..) This is a good think BUT when it comes to a drunk person who's trashed you worry about vomiting. With a very drunk person there is a good chance of vomiting and therefore aspiration. If you give them water you'll double this chance: first when you giving water to them they might not be able to swallow it correctly so it goes to their trachea and second, if they swallow the water,it might cause a stir in their stomach causing vomiting witch again a great risk for aspiration.. Aspirating stomach content can cause infection of the lungs or death.. So you never live a drunk person alone,turn them on to their side to avoid aspiration and make them buy you a dinner next day as a thank you for taking such of good care of them..;)

Don't buy so much store bought foods. Or you can mix in cooked veggies or meats that do not contain salt. Also, why are you using low-sodium salt? Just add less salt!
