I have nothing against Jimmie Johnson, but Jeff Gordon was in the lead from the 5th race of the season til the 25 race this year & had a pretty good lead & then Jeff went from being 400 plus points over Johnson & in first place & Johnson was in 5th or 6th place at the time & Jeff went to second place 20 points out & Jimmie jumped to first place. I like Jimmie as well, but this new system NASCAR started a few years back, really sucks.

I think there will be a few changes next year, with more drastic changes in the future. At least I hope so. It really sux the way it is.

I'm a Jeff Gordon fan, but it's hard for me to say that Jimmie Johnson doesn't deserve to win the championship. Does he deserve it more than Jeff? I don't think so.....but he still put on one heck of a performance this year.
The bottom line is that while the old system was the most fair, it wasn't great for the money making aspect of NASCAR. This is a business, and when the championship is pretty much wrapped up 3-4 races before the season ends......ratings go down. Many racing fans would still watch the races, but many other fans will switch to the NFL game if the championship is a runaway.
I think they need to tweak it to where the regular season points leader gets a 25-50 point bonus at the start of the chase. It was ridiculous that somebody could be leading by over 300 points, and that lead meant absolutely nothing at the start of the playoffs.

Yep, the chase sucks, and dummy Brian France thinks its great...I don't know what he has been smoking. They can award more points for winning during the yr..Nascar isn't MLB,NFL,NBA,NHL playoff and bowl games work there, but this is racing.. If I were a Jeff Gordon fan I'd be fighting mad, huge point lead gone and now he is trailing.. They also need to dump this owners points crap, and let the fastest 43 guys in the race....Yep theres a lot that needs fixing...But this chase has to go....I can't stand watching the pre race stuff, all the media hype, they sound worse than the worst used car salesman ever. If I hear how great the chase is again, I'm going to barf... Fix it Nascar, you screwed it up now fix it..
Hey I'm with the No Chase in 08...hey maybe we can get Riki Rachtman involved, like he did with free the 8..

Are you talking about the changes in the way the points are?
I think honestly having 12 chasers was the dumbest thing NASCAR could do. That's too many drivers chasing for the same thing, I hope Jeff Gordon wins the title, I think he can bounce back.

The almost HAVE to. NASCAR's most popular driver wasn't in it, and they have to find a way to get him in, so they extend it to 12 this year. He's 13th. So now what could they do? Well, I've heard some people talking about changes, like Darrell Waltrip who said something about he thinks The Chase should be shortened to 5 races to increase drama. I've also heard ideas from other fans in different forums for tweaking The Chase.
The bottom line is that NASCAR needs to listen to their fans as much as they do their advertisers. As much as advertising drives the sport, the fans drive it as well.

They prolly will if enough people whine about it. That is what got the chase started in the first place, people whining about Kenseth winning.

It would not surprise me to see changes. I don;t think the Chase will go away, but I think they will re-examine things as the law of unintended consequences have kicked in.
