I have been thinking about joining special forces for either the Marines or the Army. Should I do ROTC first?

Yes. In case you get an injury and have to leave the Army/Marines, have a degree to fall back on in the civillian world.

I would say college is definitely a plus. Perhaps focus on International Studies (not International Relations as this is a business degree) or on a specific language. As for ROTC, It's not a must, though I believe it could be viewed as an asset with your development. It won't guarantee you a position in special forces any more than someone that didn't go through ROTC. I know a few Force Recon Marines out of Okinawa and Hawaii, none of the Officers that were there went through ROTC, and one of the degree wasn't all that important either, as one had a degree in Wildlife Fisheries and Biology...i kid you not. Focus on your PT and swimming, and be mentally driven!! Good luck, and congradulations on hearing the call. As for Greg's comment, don't listen to him...i'm a bit jaded, yes, but I knew too many damn fine Marines with degrees that wanted nothing more than be Officers and yet they were mislead by Recruiters into thinking they could make a better path for themselves as Enlisted...the end result, a Marine I served with took 2 years to get transferred over as an Officer/Pilot...the guy had a MS in Mathematics, all the while the Recruiter got his points towards promotion with that enlistment contract. Talk to the ROTC program at the University you are attending, they will provide you with all the information you need, and if not they will refer you to an OSP, not a Recruiter. Semper Fi, and think about the Corps if you are looking into SpecOps...as they are the Few for a reason.

Well having a college education is a great thing and it certainly will not hurt your career opportunities in the Marine Corp or the Army. If you can afford to do your college classes now then by all means do it, ROTC sounds like a great idea as well.

Go US ARMY SPECIAL FORCES first, then go to college!! Suggest a visit to the Nearest US Military Recruiter and they will be glad to present all of the most up to date information on college and the US Army and the US Marine Corps!!!
Or you can apply to the college of choice and then
apply to the ROTC Program!! Good luck

College is an excellent aid in not only the military but civilian life as well. Anything you could do to make yourself more prepared is a good thing.
