Food grade parchment paper for cooking won't be found in an office supply store. It's not the same as parchment writing paper.

Waxed paper is just that, paper with a wax coating. It's what was used long ago to wrap sandwiches, store leftovers and to line cake pans, before we had zip lock bags and parchment paper.

Parchment paper has only been available to the public for only a few years. Before that, you could only get it from professional bakery suppliers.

Parchment paper is found in most grocery stores with the aluminum foil, zip lock bags and waxed paper and at Walmart, Michael's and Hobby Lobby with the cake decorating supplies.

Parchment paper is higher end than wax paper and can be used for making decorating bags for icing. You can get it in most supermarkets or places like Bed Bath and Beyond or other kitchen stores.
