It was only a little over a year ago that I heard the story of Mithra.
I was like WOW!!!!
Then I knew FOR SURE that the bible was entirely man made.
Honestly does it make you think about the validity of a story that has been used so much?

They ignore it. Just like the existence of saltwater animals, the impossibility of Noah's ark, the holes in Genesis, the head-scratchers in the new testament, and ...well the rest of the book.

Are you so shallow a thinker or just very young and ignorant that you can't grasp God is eternal, He spoke through His prophets ... the truth got around by mouth until it was written down.
Have you ever played the game where a lot of chairs are set up side-by-side and kids each take a chair. Someone whispers in the first child's ear something to be passed down to the last child who tells everyone what she/he heard. As you know the story is extremely distorted by the time the last child receives it.
Throughout history stories were heard and a twist given to it by every area that it went through. That's why so many stories are very much similiar but not exactly the same.
God is omniscient (all knowing), omnipotent (all powerful) and omnipresent (present everywhere at all times). Do you think he sleeps or is lazy? I don't think so. Why would He allow His truth to be destroyed? He wouldn't!
Believe the Bible it's infallable and inerrant. Based upon God's Word about Himself. God cannot lie. Titus 1:2 in hope of eternal life which "God who cannot lie", promised before time began.

Hang on, is it Mithra or Horus? Make up your minds...
Fact is, that most of the supposed parallels are false. Mithra didn't have 12 disciples, he wasn't born of a virgin, and he wasn't crucified. Check for yourself on Wikipedia.

I had an atheist tell me that was all bs. I went to barns and noble to get a book on that...I found some pretty hateful stuff, but I couldn't find anything about the zeitgeist stuff. Is that were you are getting this? Seriously, I want to know about this repetitious sun guy.

The story of Mithra and Jesus are not at all similar. Saying it over and over to yourself will not make it true.

I still believe that Jesus existed though ... just not in the way we are told

The story is a good story. Why would others have not tried to copy it?

it depends whether you think myth (and by that i mean like Joseph Campbell myth, not the "we only use 10% of our brains" kind) has more value than, say, a historical narrative
and i kinda do
