Everyone should be advised that celibacy is a prohibition on marriage, not on sex.

Not having sex is called chastity, though they are often confused due to the (dogmatic) view that sex should not occur outside marriage.

However to answer your kwestion, No. Part of the whole success of Catholicism is convincing people that they are sinners and salvation is only achievable through the church.

Therefore anyone can be forgiven their past transgretions and become a priest though they may have been downright unvirtuous in the past. Heck, they have proven throughout history that they can be as perverse as the wish safe in the knowledge that as believers they have a place reserved for them in heaven.

No question is silly or dumb if you don't know the answer. Ask away and don't let anyone harrass you for it.

No, priests do not have to be virgins to become a priest but should practice celibacy once the final vows are taken. Same for nuns.

However, celibacy is not something from God. It's a Catholic "work" they perform. And I might add not too successfully ... I know of several plumbers who have been called to convents to retrieve fetus' and babies from the plumbing.

No. Many did all kinds of things before becoming priests. Some non priests were even married before becoming a priest and I don't think they demand you divorce to become a priest....but I'm not Catholic.

Well, not really, however after they become priests they must not have sexual relations. The practice celibacy and should remain like that.

You haven't watched enough TV or seen many movies huh? NO that isn't the case...they're sworn to celibacy after they're ordained as priests. What they did before is forgiven by they're voluntary acceptance of Christ as their partner in life.
