"Riding the Rails" was a term the old time hobos used when they were hopping on freight trains.
If this is what you are referring to, the answer is yes there are still some but not near as many as there were say 20 years ago. not sure why.
We used to have a lot taht rode with the harvest seasons, farm laborers back and forth with the work.
And then there always ones that were just after adventure and the romance, I have had some very interesting conversations with hobos over the years, some are very intelligent individuals.
There is a lot of violence, gang and drug related now, scares a lot of old time hobos away perhaps.
I dont have much to do with them if I can help it, have had co-workers attacked so I now call the bulls (slang for RR police LOL).

Yes. Over half a million people commute into London every day by rail.
Think what a snarl-up there would be if every one of those rail passengers drove to work instead.
In Europe especially people often use the train in preference to the car as it is quick, cheap and reliable.
In the UK there are a large number of Heritage Railways where vintage steam locomotives are kept in working order and these are very popular, especially the 'Thomas the Tank Engine' days which go down very well with the kids. Another hit with the little'uns are the Santa Specials which operate around Xmas time.

I do, I love to be able to sit back and enjoy the sites. No worries about where the next gas station is, what am I going to be stuck eating and having to stop to sleep. If you have the time the train is the way to go!

Yes they do. My brother worked for the railroad and he used to see them on a regular basis.
