Are you talking about the outside, inside or both?

I have always thought the clean, bright white Christmas lights outside, and in, give your home a classic look. If you have a fireplace, then get an evergreen garland (or 2 so it looks more full) to hang over your mantle and hang a huge wreath. Put white lights on both. Pick a few colors.....I like doing red and gold ornaments and fruit etc... on the wreath and mantle and some BIG pillar candles. Maybe put out a nutcracker....... try to stick with clear themes and keep them concentrated instead of every table top and every open space on the wall..... A centerpiece on the table is always a good touch. And make sure to get some holiday scented candles that arent for decoration and burn them like crazy!!! I love the one from yankee candle that smells like a Christmas tree. They change the name every year, but if you look, you'll find it. Last few years they were called "evergreen, sparkling pine etc...."
A wonderful smell goes farther than anything!

First, I think you should rid anything that takes away from the spirit. A lot of people go really simple these days, so toss or store away all those nicnacs and chochkies make the place look really clean and make sure there is enough light. Then go simple on decor, you don't want it to be hard for you to put out and more so hard for you to clean up. I get a table runner (christmas colors ofcourse) and put it on top of my book shelf and tv stand. Then I add a couple candles with holiday cents (get the same kind or make sure their smells mix well) then I get just a couple things that I like to lay around the house for decor. And then the big cahoona is for sure the Christmas Tree! I don't like to go all out on that either because I don't like that cluttered look, but I love to decorate it! if your windows face the street, you could always do the white lights and maybe some of that window snow to spray on them! always fun! : ) Good Luck!

Keep it simple and use live greenery. I hate those cheap flat bows people buy. You can buy a bow maker and some ribbon at a craft store and make your own. Just make sure that it is very full with 3 tails or have a florist make up a bow for you. I like the idea of a spotlight on the door because it's simple but elegant. Inside keep your decorating consistant. You can do a theme tree or just using red and gold, but lots of it on your tree. Take a trip to a place that does Christmas up big time and steal some of their ideas. Macy's gives me ideas. I also visit my local florist and steal his ideas. Have fun with it.

outside... keep it classic white lights.. just stick to one color of lights and it looks soooo much better... or you could mix red green and white and still have it look classy

inside... lots of green and garland... mix white lights in green pine garlands and put around the fire place, railings etc... obviously you need a tree and keep classy with whatever colors you put outside... if you have young children around you can make a smaller "play" tree that they can decorate and you can use multi colored lights and place this in a seperate room from the main tree... stay away from too many figurines because these just make it look cluttered.. under the tree you can set up train tracks or a little village but again, the focus is the tree so don't make it too cluttered

good luck!!... keep it simple and clean and it will look amazing!

Through the years ( 56 ) I have seen many of house decorations. Th ones that I think are the most elegant and beautiful ones are the ones with a wreath on the door and a spotlight shining on the wreath and door. Its simple and cheap and it looks soooo elegant to me.

Try 2 or 3 trees all different sizes. Use white lights only. It will be elegant. Remember all of your senses when decorating. It is about smell and lighting and textures not just ornaments. the trees will smell so good.

miki, Sorry, but first of all I think you need to learn how to spell before you decrate (decorate)---no offense. :-) Christmas overboard---SORRY, ITS THE TEACHER IN ME!!! And miki, remember Christ in Christmas. After all, He's the reason for the season. Have a Merry one yourself.
