Is it illegal?

Sure it is, as long as it's done for punishment and not out of anger.

Child abuse when spanking goes too far and it's done out of anger.

No it is not illegal (in most places). Disciplining kids can be taken many different ways. Spanking (within reason) should be done to enforce the point of bad behavior and instill the fear of being spanked again. Fear is a great motivator for kids. Always keep your anger in check, however as it's easy to lose control. Usually one smack on the rear end or hand is enough to solve the issue. Kids today lack that and it shows. Parents are afraid to be parents because big brother keeps meddling in the laws and then there are the nosy, ignorant people that are brainwashed by 'political correctness' too.

depends where you live and tha laws of that state I would think

Under 2 years old I think California recently past law that you cant spank your kid.

So long as its not abuse and cruel and unusual...then you can discipline your child with spanking.

Sometimes it is necessary, as some children will test their parents, and need to be shown who the boss really is.

But it should be only after an escalation of attempts to correct behavior.
And according to the childs age, that would dictate if a child really will learn from spanking.

A small tap on the butt is almost a necessity for a willful child who keeps grabbing at stuff they shouldnt be...like trash, like dogs food -- but that goes hand in hand with how the child is being taken care of.

At 2-4 they need something because you really cant teach them with explanation. so a smll tap....NOT a bruise leaving smack is called for.

Now, a kid who refuses to stop playing with matches at age 8, well that deserves a nice little spanking, if theystill wont listen.

But it all reallly comes down to the individual parenting style.

Some parents lack parenting skills, and LEAD off with the smacking..when it should be one of the last resorts.

Yes, certainly. But don't spank whenever you are mad as you might have a tendency to spank too hard or too long. I know it is illegal in some states. But, if some of these young people who are committing so many crimes had been properly punished when they were small children, they might not have grown up to be criminals.

If its illegal then our society is going down... how do you punish a kid these days? No TV for a week (Thats pathetic)

Your grounded, you cannot leave (Sneak out the window)

No driving for a month (Get your friends to do it)

Sure most of these are for teenagers... But they wouldn't be punished in the first place had they gotten the right discipline when they do something that they shouldn't have.

granted the punishment is needed and not in anger. Thats child abuse.

Many States classify spanking as, up to, 3 hits on the rear with an open hand. It is not legal in all States.

Technically it is not supposed to be illegal as long as you don't leave a bruise. But if the wrong people find out that you spank, they will treat you suspiciously. You might even find CPS coming to check you out.

I think spanking is mostly unnecessary and feel it's used far too much. But I feel the California law is unnecessary-we have abuse laws already. You can't force parents to be great parents. Of course, I'm not happy about teen curfew laws either-parents should not have their rights and responsibilities taken by the state. But parents went along with the curfew, deciding (this was amazing to me) that the government knows what time your kid should be home better that the parents.

Is it illegal?

In what Country?

In which State?

Why do people ask if something is "legal" or "illegal" and not indicate WHERE?
.

The Bible says, "spare the rod, spoil the child". Spanking when done without anger and yelling is a very good directional tool.
