When my room gets too overwhelming, i sit right in the middle and just start chucking things into piles.... Starting with a big garbage bag, walk around the whole house and throw out ALL the rubbish FIRST.

From there you can start making piles, ie, clothes, sheets (that need washing) things that can go into storage and then from there smaller piles, like cups that need to go back from your room etc. Once everything is in piles you can have a break, then go back and put all the piles away.

Shrinking it down into smaller jobs will help it to seem more managable. Good Luck Lefty! :)

Go to the shops with a list of cleaners you need and bin bags, then Start in the room you most want to use first get it all nice and clean get the kitchen and bathroom clean and fresh, then follow on doing all the other rooms one at a time pace yourself and do it over a few days or the weekend. If you've got mates who helped you make this filthy stinking mess rope them into helping out have a clear out party but no one gets any booze until the place is cleared, Or could you afford to get some one in to do it

some pointers for you:

1) buy some very strong bin bags.., lots of bleach and cleaner cloths, mop/bucket and rubber gloves

2) first of all i would start by throwing away your rubbish and your clutter - i.e. stuff that you THOUGHT you would eventually use but never did. Toss it all in the bin bags. Be ruthless.

once you do that the place would be easier to clean

3) start in the room that is the most messy. because a) that will give you the greatest sense of achievement when its cleaned and will motivate you and b) when you get weary you will have the less messy rooms to complete.

4) i dont know about you but i love to clean to fast music lol ... it motivates me

5) dont let the mess frighten or ovderwhelm you so much that you dont do it - its just mess. dont let it take over your flat! get up and start now if poss, if not poss pick a day and time and stick to it. dont let anyone or anything distract you.

6)after reading these replies switch off your laptop - seriously, Yanswers is very addictive and a huge distraction.

good luck!

One room at a time. Start with the kitchen as this is a serious health hazard, Get some bin bags and tip out everthing you don't need. Put on the rubber gloves, get some bleach and water and clean everything. Then sit down and congratulate yourself. Choose another room and do the same and soon you will have a sparkling flat and feel fantastic.
Or if you are rich phone a cleaning company and they will do it for you.

This is what I do to get started......

First thing --- go all over the house and collect what needs to be thrown in the garbage. Leftover food lying around, food past its expiry from the fridge, empty cans and paper products, and anything and everything that needs to go in the garbage. It's ok if you miss the small items...you'll come back to it later. but atleast you got most of the discard items out of the way.

2nd.....collect all dirty dishes from all over your apartment and keep them by the sink. Empty your fridge of all dishes that need to be washed and keep them by the sink. Have everything by the sink that needs to be washed. Next, wash them. You will feel so relieved.

3rd.....make a tour of the apartment and go about placing simple items in their place. Like that scissors that needs to go in the drawer, or the book that needs to go in the shelf, or the dirty clothes that need to go in the hamper.

After you do the above 3 ..... now, you can tackle one room at a time. Or even one corner at a time. Like, say, the bathroom first, then the kitchen, then maybe one corner of the living room......and now you can clean in a detailed, minute way. Scan every single piece of item and put it where it belongs.

You don't have to do all this in one go. So break it down in chunks, listen to some peppy music if need be and rest whenever tired.

Another tip is the have a box ready for items that need to be donated or given away or sold. This way you can get even more organized.

Go easy and slow.....no need to hurry....

Clean it one room at a time, working clockwise around your flat (and around each room); clean each room starting at the top and working your way down.

Gain efficiency by "multitasking" - keeping the laundry cycling through while you work, ditto for the dishwasher if you've got one, letting cleaners soak in in your sink or toilet, etc. while you're working elsewhere. If you have to go between rooms, always lug something each way to avoid unnecessary trips.

Don't get hung up on small details, e.g. alphabetizing your CD collection; you can always circle back on those projects later.

Music - even better, a book on tape - can make the whole thing go faster.

how much money do you have?.
1 make a shopping list.
2, buy some disenfectants, bleach, polish clothes, dusters, bucket mop, washing powder,
3 roll up your sleeves
4 get all rubbish chucked out,
5 get cleaning, using plenty of elbow grease.
6 sit down relax, your flat is clean smells good, **** and span, if you did 1 or 2 hours cleaning each day it would not get into the state it is in now.

I always start with the bathroom, then the kitchen, living room and last the bedroom. It helps me if as I am cleaning when I find something that belongs in another room to toss it in there and then put everything away at once rather then running back and forth a thousand times.

First throw away any trash to get it out of the way. Then put away anything that is out of place. Next, do the dishes and laundry. Finally, do the hard stuff, mopping dusting, cleaning the kitchen, vacuuming, etc. This is the only way, one step at a time.
