She's a dog - she's not mad at you for always leaving her. What she is, is bored! She needs exercise, she needs something to keep her mind busy. A tired dog is a happy dog!

Since your bored dog is chewing things, she needs to be kept in a crate, both for her own safety and to protect your things.

Maybe she could go to doggie day care to keep from always feeling frustrated.

She's bored. Dogs lack the higher reasoning power to be spiteful, therefore a dog's actions can never be construed as revenge. Doggie daycare may be a good option, or see if a neighbor is willing to let her out and play with her a little during the day. Several hours a day, 5 days a week is really too long for a 1 year old dog to be home alone, BUT, I know you have a life apart from your dog. So just try to work something out so that she will be taken care of and you won't find chewed-up stuff when you get home!

Your dog is bored. Either crate train her so she cant get to your stuff, or possibly get her a companion to hang around with durring the day. Giver her plenty of bones and toys so she puts her attention on those when she chews and not on your things. Also, keep doors closed if you are afraid she is going to chew something you really dont want destroyed. Play with her more often when you are together, and she'll be tired and relax a lot.

My new puppy did the exact same thing. All i had to do was crate when every one was out of the house. It is most likely an anxienty problem from lack of exercise and/or being home alone. My dog won't do anything at night so we leave her out of the crate. Try walking her everyday if this is not possible the a dog daycare is the better option.

The only thing I agree with in that last comment is that it's a great idea to put your dog in a 'doggie day care'. Most vet offices or kennels offer this and it also teaches your dog great obedience. As far as your dog being angry with you, they do lash out. Dogs, cats, birds, what-have-you. If you are not giving your animal enough attention or it is unhappy being cooped up (i.e. in a kennel all day, everyday like the last person suggested) they are more apt to destroy things and even runaway if they get the chance. Trust me on this! My parents used to breed dogs and I have had many dogs of my own that I can vauge for this myself. Also, another example is with cats...if you don't clean a cats litter box enough, they will pee on anything left on the floor. I rest my case. Good luck and give your doggie tons of kisses!! :)

Bored dogs chew. Take her for long walks when you get home from work, throw a tennis ball, whatever it takes to get her the exercise she needs.

get her some chew toys....dogs need and love to chew on things. It is good for their teeth and gums too.

Suggestions:

Kongs (filled w/ peanut butter and doggie kibble or treats)
Bones (not rawhide!)
Hard plastic toys that are not easily torn up
Ropes
balls
etc.

you need to do a better job of managing your dog's environment and training. dogs do not do anything out of spite; but she may be bored and under-exercised/untrained.
