its nearly coming up to christmas and my friend is going to america for christmas shopping and before he go's i would like to no if irish ps3 games work on an american ps3 so that for deffinate i know that it will work over here in ireland

Yes. PS3 games are region free, but PS1/2 games and movies aren't.
