After a tattoo, the skin is traumatized -- very similar to when you have a sunburn, which is why it feels like it's burning. The entire top layer of your skin has been very badly damaged and needs time to heal. Try to keep it covered, but I wouldn't put sunscreen on it until it is a week or two old.

some people's tattoos do that. mine do anytime they are exposed to the sun, like walking from my car to the store or something. it is SO IMPORTANT that you keep your tattoos shielded from the harmful rays of the sun. uv rays break down the ink in tattoos. it's not something that happens immediately but it does take place over time and the end result is a HORRIBLE looking tattoo. protect your tattoo from the sun at all costs!!! (sunscreen does NOT protect the ink from being damaged)

if its brand new it shouldn't be out in the sun. it takes about 2-3 week for a tattoo to heal. after that it can go in the sun but put lots of sunsrean on it or it can fade from uva and uvb light.

You should avoid direct sunlight and water on your tat for a week. Just long enough for the scab to develop and protect it. Keep it moist with tattoo goo a couple times a day and it should be fine. If you don't take care of it properly while it's healing, it will not look as good when the healing is done.

Hurts to think about it! I'm at high altitude and sometimes you only need to be outside 5 minutes before getting burnt... If they aren't even noticeable and not in the coloring, you probably don't have anything to worry about. Maybe just some aloe vera if it hurts. My gut instinct would be to leave it be and see what happens. Your tattoo shop might have some better advice :)

it's an open wound and as the sun is on it longer and longer it's going to dry out and get irritated. Cover it up best you can and put lots and lots on sunscreen on.

Maybe you didn't put enough sunscreen on it. Also, you're not supposed to put your brand new tattoo in direct sunlight the first few days.

If you just got it, then you have to let it heal. I think you have to wait like a month before you can lay in the sun or a tanning bed. It drys it out too much.

... 'cause you forgot to put sunblock on it. Tatwax with sunscreen works good, but any sunscreen will do. Would recommend 30 for a new one.
