Is there really that much of a difference between the backward compatibility of the 60GB and 80GB PS3?

The backward compatibility between both consoles really isn't a big difference. The 60GB PS3 can probably play a few hundred more PS1 and PS2 games games than the 80GB PS3 can.

Also, during some parts of the game, the 80GB PS3 might have minor bugs during the game. For example, I just used Sony's website to check the backward compatibility status for the Splinter Cell games on the 60GB PS3 and the 60GB PS3 can play all of those games perfectly.

But when I checked the backward compatibility status for the 80GB PS3 for the Splinter Cell games, it could play all of the Splinter Cell games perfectly except for Splinter Cell Pandora Tommorrow. The website said that when the legal and title screen appears on Pandora Tommorrow, the graphics may appear corrupt.

So really, there isn't a big difference in backward compatibility, but the 60GB PS3 is the best PS3 to get if you want to play a lot of PS2 and PS3 games.

You can check the backward compatibility status of a game on Sony's website. Here is a link to it if you want to check on some games:

i might get the 60gb ps3 in case you will discover one. The 80gb ps3 has equipment faults in some ps2 titles, and the 20gb is now no longer available. you will could carry out a little finding to discover a 60gb ps3, in spite of the shown fact that it particularly is going to likely be well worth it.

the 60gb ps3 can play 97% of all ps1 and ps2 games with hardware, while the 80gb ps3 can play some ps1 and ps2 games by software emulation.
