I recently was hired to work as a bartender for a catering company. I have a pretty good knowledge of most popular drinks from going out and what not. I have 2 questions:

1. What are the 10 most ordered drinks at bars/weddings/events?

2. What are sonme drinks that "older generations" may order that I may not be familar with?

If you have any other advice or tips for me feel free to include! Thanks!

I am a bartender and we tend to have a bit of an older crowd. They tend to order margaritas (on the rocks, easy salt) when they are "living it up." But the regulars that I get, the women ordered greyhounds or sea-breezes. The men tend to have Jack and Coke or crown and coke and also McNaughton's and 7, or 7 and 7. Our most popular beers are XX Amber, Widemer Hefeweizen, and Red Hook ESB. Our most popular martinis are a Washington apple, chocotinits, and caramel macchiato martinis. I push a lot of raspberry mojitos because people ask about mojitos but aren't sure if they will like them, so I suggest a flavored one, and raspberry tends to be the most popular, anybody who tries one tends to have a second or third. A double lemon drop on the rocks with a sugared rim is also a hit.... most of all have fun! Talk to your customers with a smile!

when you get up to the bar and the bar keep asks you what you want order your drink. when you recieve your drink and the bar keep tells you your damage pay up. Pretty simple right? Always tip more on the first drink at least two bucks and that way you can insure that he wont be talking to joe regular down at the end of the bar while your diying of thirst. After the first drink I always tip a buck, you never know, that extra dollar might keep your name in the bartenders mouth and not in the cops ear in the event of a brawl. Have fun don't drink and drive.

Believe it or not Water is always popular, sometimes with lemon!!

However if you mean alcoholic, it depends upon the bar, the theme, and the crowd. "Older" drinks I have found to be are; Sloe Gin Fizz, Tom Collins; Rusty Nail; Bloody Mary; Old Fashioned; Martinis; and Manhattans. A lot will drink a top shelf liquor straight up or on the rocks.Just keep an easy read, well worded guide handy, it will help you. Someone will always ask for a drink you have never heard of, and often times allowing people to tell you how to make the drink makes them fell good about themself, plus then you they know you did not make it the wrong way. There is no shame in asking, "What'll ya have.. oh what's in that?!? Love each drink you make even if you hate that kind of liquor, sounds weird I know, but it works, because somebody loves it and ordered, take the time to make their drink properly and consinsitently and you will be succesful, as long as you personality allows you to be. When in doubt, consult your recipe handbook, and compile a list of drinks you have made up, and named, but make sure it is not already a drink. Good Luck.

I used to get "Beefeaters and tonic" when I was a server ALL THE TIME from old guys, lol, at this tavern I worked at.
Basically gin and tonic, which is pretty common. Also scotch and water, scotch and soda, etc.
