They both seem to ignore everyday realities that people face, and end up in policies that do not support families. By Economic Fundamentalism I mean the idea that I must be a hardcore "Free Market Conservative" vs. a "Communist".

Or Religious Fundie thought might suggest that in order to love God I have to vote against abortion or gay marriage, without also considering the importance of health care for kids or Social Security for widows, kids, and old people...

It seems these labels and fringe issues have taken over real concerns like education, energy independence, fixing our national debt etc...

While I usually like that site, this is one area in which I have always disagreed with them. They have confused religious extremism with fundamentalism. Extremism does not always equal violence, but can also manifest itself in the ways listed there - extreme departure from reality, sometimes harmful, sometimes not to anyone other than the extremists. Fundamentalism does not always lead to or equal extreme behaviors. It simply refers to someone who follows the fundamentals of their faith. This can be harmful when it leads to extremism or benign. I know several people who follow the fundamentals of their assorted faiths who are also very progressive or moderate. They stay TRUE to the faith without departing from the reality of the world around them. I know "fundie" has turned into an insult now because we notice extreme behaviors in some of those folks, but they are the minority. Unfortunately it's just easier for people to blame it on all of the fundies than it is to recognize the differences between extremist behaviors and simply staying true to the basics - the fundamentals - of your faith.

America, with it's free-market conservatism and religious freedom, has done substantially better than atheist-centric countries like the USSR which advocate nationalized industry and religious restriction. Frankly, I'd have to say that your reasoning is flawed.
