My son was given a ticket for parking in an entrance to a ice cream place that is next door to us. The owner invited him to park there during the winter months when there are restrictions for parking on the street and his business is closed. When he called the police station to question it, he was told that if the officer felt it was against the law then it was and there was nothing he could do about it...................what the heck? Does that mean that the officer has a right to give out tickets for whatever ticks him off?

Your son should fight the ticket. Ask the owner of the driveway to go along to offer testimony. You might not get it, but I'd demand an apology from the officer. Consider filing lawsuit against him/her, false arrest.

Depends on city ordinance. In my town people may not block a driveway by parking in the street infront of that driveway. People may also not park in a driveway as to cross the sidewalk. If your son was parked in the drive I would check on the ordinance. However there may also be own for parking in a closed business lot. This will help keep away possible burglars...

If the car was parked "IN" the driveway with the owners permission, it was legally parked. If it was parked on the street "ACROSS" the driveway, it was illegally parked, even if the owner had given permission.

The Gov't owns the street, and it's they who have the authority to say who can park on it, and where. In most States "across a driveway or entrance" is illegal with or without the owners permission.

My husband is a police officer and in our state yes it is illegal. If there were a fire at that building or some other reason they needed access to the lot your sons vehicle would have been in the way. If you realy feel outraged by the ticket challenge it in court. Tickets given in Indiana can be challenged in our traffic courts in front of a judge...

No, but there must be a reason for that law, maybe the car would block fire trucks if there was a fire.
