To a wedding? after being together for 5 years?
Assuming you don't think it's selfish.
His reason for not going is he thinks a wedding is pointless and boring, that he would have to rent a suit, and that it's not even of my someone of my immediate family, it's a cousin's.

The point is it doesn't matter what his stupid **** thinks ABOUT the engagement. It doesn't matter if its a "bite the head of chickens" show, thats not the point, the point is what it means to YOU, and what it means to the people envolved. So he is being a compassinatless, selfish, individual, man I feel sorry for you, because if he does this here, it does it in other place. Does he do anything? Have a hobby? Just explain to him this "Lets say you got an award for your hobby (if its gaming, watching porn, or working, whatever the case may be), and I descided not to go because your hobby means nothing to me, would that be selfish?" Try that on him, if he says he doesn't care, then you know you f'd up because this guys good at manupilating you for what HE wants, and not anything to do with what he needs, being compassinate to other peoples dreams even if they don't mean anything to us is part of being human, its part of caring, and giving a crap. Let him know AGAIN, it doesn't matter what he feels, it matters what they feel about it, and its a wedding, everyones full of hopes, dreams, romantic notions, and an ideal the love can conquer anything, that deserves anyones attention. So its not you being selfish hunnie, its him being selfish, thats the point.... You could also explain to him that just because he doesn't believe in marriage doesn't mean others don't. Ask him, if a little girl of 5 years old came up to him, and ask if santa claus is real, what would he tell her? No, there is no santa, thats a stupid idea little girl and your parents are neglecting your up bringing? Or would he turn to her and say, Yes little girl?
