Is there such a thing as a web based lcd tv calibration site? I really dont want to spend $50+ on avia or the dve disc, and none of my local movie rental places have any.

so youre saying that all dvd calibrators are worthless, because that would just configure the dvd source input?
isnt that exactly the point of using one? at least my dvd picture would be the best quality.
i have a pc input and various hdmi inputs that could all be configured using a web based site.

Suppose there was a website with test patterns.

You would hook up your computer, go to the site and adjust the brightness, contrast, color for the DVI input on your TV.

How would this help set your component inputs? Or the HDMI inputs?

The point of calibration is to adjust the TV settings and the source electronics to give true black, red, and standardize the brightness.

But this involves the source electronics and the TV electronics. This is why better televisions have independent settings for each input.

She is correct. The calibration will reduce the power consumption because the colors and brightness ar reduced slightly lowering the amount of watts the tv uses during use. As for extending the life, a calibration can extend the life for about two to three years.

Best option is to buy/rent a THX certified dvd and calibrate your tv according to the tests included (thx optimizer). They are much cheaper and work fine. For details refer to the link.
