Today i was Playing around with my cars audio system just to adjust some things real quick. My music was somewhat loud but thats how most instructions say to tune your speakers, you have to turn it up to like 3/4 full. I was almost done when my neighbor who is kinda old comes over and tells me to turn my **** music down. it had only been 15 minutes and I wasn't listening to rap which i know some people really don't like. it was a country song with some bass in it because i needed high notes too. it was 3:30 in the afternoon and i normally try to think of other people (like don't blast music early in the morning or at night). This is the first time I've had my music loud in my neighborhood and i haven't had a party with loud music. If he would have asked me to turn it down then i would have. Should He have come over and started swearing at me to turn it down?

There must have been a reason for him to get so upset. It could be anything. Just forget about it! But let me tell you i am having problems with our teenage neighbors who are doing the opposite of what you have done. 4 neighbors have called the police for the last 1 1/2 years and they won't stop .Loud rap as you said i can hear it down the street late in the night. all day long. they stop for a week then start again. I could go on telling you how we have been trying to stop it. But the point i would suggest to you,is IGNORE IT. 1 time and it is over. Be polite to him and don't bother him in the future. if you can! And i love country!!!!

He didn't have any right to swear at you. He if had a problem with the music he should have just asked you to turn it down. I have never seen instructions on tuning speakers that say to have it up that loud.

Living in the country with no close neighbors is so nice. I don't have this problem.

Everyone who is saying no are, honestly, probably young as hell, have no kids, are unaware of the law, and must not have people like that in their area to often. Not to sound bad, but after 15 minutes by my house, the police would be at your door writing you a ticket. Not sure of everywhere, but in FL if your system can be heard more than 15ft away, you can get a ticket. If in a residential area, you get two tickets. To be polite, you probably should have said something or asked before you did it, and if it were a problem go somewhere like the last parking spot at WalMart or something....that way, everyone wins.
The swearing was probably not needed though, that was a little out of line. My neighbors would never swear at me, but then that may be because I am so big.

Everyone knows the complainer/caller has a right to at least 10 minutes of uninterrupted initial talk time to explain why he called and what he expects the conversation to encompass. It sounds like you have some important issues, and therefore, the time of day/night should not effect your neighbor's willingness to listen and give constructive advice. Like I said, everyone knows this... it's not law, but it's obviously common sense, not to mention common decency. Your neighbor is probably on drugs or retarded. I'm sorry for your situation.

You have to think of it from his point of veiw. He didn't know what you were doing or how long it would take. He just knows that you are next door playing your music at full volume, and it was annoying to him, so he came over to tell you to turn it down. It just happened to be as you were finishing up, and it sounds like he is a fairly cranky man. Technically he does have the law on his side, as i'm guessing if he could hear it next door, it was beyond your cities noise-limit, but I don't think he had the right to swear at you, regardless the case.

He probably shouldn't have cussed at you, but honestly, if you were sitting in the driveway next door to mine, with the radio blaring for 15 minutes, I'd be fairly upset, too.

It would have been pretty simple for you to reply with something like, "Yeah, sorry, I'm just doing a little work on the sound system, and I'll be done in another few minutes. I'll turn it down as soon as I'm done."

I live in Palm Beach County Fl. (they call it the sandbox of the united states because everyone comes here to get buried) My neighboorhood is 85% senior citizens. Everytime a kid plays their music to loud, or jumps in the pool, or even climbs a tree, they are yelled at. The fact is alot of elderly people are just bitter. He did not have any reason to react the way he did. I would apologize, and let him know you were fixing a couple of things. When you kill them with kindness they are less likely to react this way. Shake his hand and let him know you did not mean to disturb him.

well...you shouldnt be playing your music very loud even though it was 3 in the afternoon...believe me there are people out there that been up all night or work the graveyard shift and so they sleep during the day...but your neighbor should not have swore at you...he should have just said that it was too loud and ask u to turn it down...

Car security 101 - Never play your stereo outside of your house.

The swearing was not necessary.
