Did a army doctor diagnose you or civilian? If it was an army doctor you will probably get a medical discharge after having to go to a medical board. I'm not sure if it will be honorable or not.

It depends on which "phase" you are diagnosed with. Phase 1 will get you a medical discharge. Phase 2 will get you medication and frequent psych visits but since it can be controlled by meds, no discharge. You will have to be evaluated for which phase you have before you can begin the medical board. Talk to the dr. that gave you the diagnosis and ask which phase he feels you are in and then talk to the medical board. Hope this helps.

I agree with Diann B and would like to add for you to speak to the VA as soon as you determine if you are going to have a Med Board or not. If you are going to be boarded, you need to find out what you need to do about post-service benefits. Since you were diagnosed while on duty, you MAY (there's no guarantee) be eligible for disability. Only a VA rep can fully explain what you are or are not eligible for.

You will probably get a medical discharge which is honorable, but will help you get the benefits available to you.

It sounds like this is what you want. I am bipolar and do Anything i want. I just take my med everyday and try to keep a good outlook in life. You will need to keep up your visits to a doctor and keep up with your meds. Hang in there. life has not just quit. Just you dont give up. And dont be afraid to talk to someone if you need to.
