A human being can never be a god and teachings which profess this lead many souls astray, to their own destruction. As long as we are in human form, we are fallible humans.
However, on a purely soul level, which is pure energy, some believe our souls, created in the image of God, are aspects *of* God (like many facets are aspects of one diamond)
But as physical humans we are impure. We have the Potential to merge with God once we finish our lessons and retain our original soul purity. No one at that level runs around claiming to actually *be* a god/God themselves, for they would be very humble.
Humans though have promoted some people to gods/God for their own purposes.
